Hey guys, I’m getting a pro controller to try it out because I’ve heard a couple people prefer it so why not try, but before I even use it I want to put octagonal gates on it. Now I know there ways to do it and guides on the internet but I don’t trust myself at all to do that. I was wondering if anybody here does or knows anyone reputable who mods pro controllers to have octagonal gates. Also are they tournament legal modded? (Don’t really care I probably won’t be going to tournaments but good to know).

If you can help me with this just drop a link or info in the thread or slide into my DMs. Much appreciated!

I would personally recommend the Power A Wireless Gamecube Controller. I bought one recently to test and I think it is a good compromise. It is basically a Pro Controller but in gc controller form. It has the octagonal gates you want and the full functionality of a pro controller too. I can tell you from experience trying every control scheme in the smash 4 days that a gc or similar controller is simply better for smash.

Are the triggers on it actually preassure sensitive?

The switch doesn’t ues that feature, so the controller has no use for pressure sensitive triggers
Is the travel length the same as the Gamecube? One of the reasons I like the switch pro controller so much is that the shoulder buttons have no extraneous travel. If it had an 8-way gate it would be perfect. On down specials and tilts I often find myself facing the wrong way because I'm just a little off center on the stick.

The travel of the triggers is less than an original GameCube controller, but it significantly more than a pro controller.

I will also recommend the wired one, it is cheaper and has a detachable wire. You still need it plugged into the switch or other devices.

The travel for the gamecube controller is a feature, actually. It lets the controller pick up where you were in the middle of your button press, so you could do variable speeds in racing games, neat stuff in Sunshine, etc.

I prefer the modern style of buttons though, but the triggers are super neat for certain games.

For anyone looking for a video tutorial on this, I made this one after struggling to find one anywhere else.

I hope it helps someone out.
Bit of a bump to an old thread, but I'll allow it lol. I can't view the link at work, so if someone says this video isn't what you said it is, I'm about to be salty.

If it's a tutorial like you say, then thanks for the resource!
