Pro Controller: Just take out the Battery?

I've recently learned that if you remove the battery from a Pro Controller, and just plug in the charger, the controller will still work. Isn't this enough of a solution for the "inference" problem at tournaments? I mean, the controller's not exactly going to be accidentally turned on if there's no battery in the thing. This removes the possibility of controllers unintentionally disrupting a match. And as for the problem of wi-fi interference (which does not seem all that common), that's the player's problem. They can use the controller, and run the risks.

Yep, I think this is probably a good rule for tourneys to implements. It kind of removes a risk that no one wants to take. Although of course this would make the wireless controllers wired, but that should really be a problem.

Doesn't everyone want wireless controllers wired anyways? I know I'll be doing this if any tournament around here ever unbans Miis

Why is it that most tourneys ban Miis? Are people just not willing to adapt to them, or is there something more to it?

It will be wired as in it will be physically attached to the system via a wire, I'm pretty sure the signal between the controller and the console is still wireless as it's only a charging cable.

Check one of the multiple threads on it. Basically, the majority in the US is against giving Miis their specials with customs off and a large part of the Mii community said, "give me liberty or give me death," and the majority was all too happy to kill us all.

Hm. Though I myself am pretty indifferent to Miis, I think it's kind of dumb to exclude a whole group of players because other players don't want to adjust. It's just reducing the size of the competitive community, all for the sake of ensuring there are no random variables in a game that is almost entirely about random variables. It's like the exclusion of Wireless controllers, basically ignoring the 3DS players (Which outnumber Wii U players) and the insistence on following tier lists like they are doctrine. It alienates, and will only ever result in players just not joining, causing this game's competitive community to become minuscule and insignificant. There has to be some give in the "competitive" rules.

Pretty good idea, only issue is doubles if 3 players want to use a pro controller due to only two extra usb ports.

They could agree to take out the white cord as that only powers rumble, and I'd imagine if all 4 wanted to use pro they could take out the adapter entirely.

What about if you're doing 3v3 squads and everyone wants to use a pro controller!!1!!111

Seems like a good idea to require wireless players to have the charger on them + take batteries out, persistent pro controller connectivity has cropped up in literally every tournament I've been to.

Will the charger still work if there's a usb hub plugged into the Wii U? Like I have one with 4 ports, don't know how that would affect sending power to the controller though.

Seems best instead of removing the battery to just side some paper or something between the contacts so you can avoid altering the weight or taking out and risk losing the battery.

I'm not sure. You may risk drawing too much power from the Wii U, if multiple Pro Controllers are plugged into a hub.

Using the charger, even without the battery, wouldn't stop it from connecting to the last system you synched with, would it?
And you'd still have to synch with the console you plug the charger into; that wouldn't be automatic.

What you *can* do, though, is just press the synch button for a second.
This unsynchs it from all consoles.
Then when it's time for another match on another console, there's still no chance of interference.

It would only sync to the last console if you hit a button before syncing to the current Wii U, which you should never manage to do.

Syncing takes like five seconds. If people can't handle that, then they have no right taking forever inputting their names into the game each time.

That doesn't work. It only turns the controller off, and hitting any button will turn it off and make it sync back to the last console.

I've tried multiple ways to create a permanent de-sync. I even emailed Nintendo about it. Their suggestion didn't even work.

So far the weight change has seemed negligible to me.
