You're kinda stereotyping preps there man. 
I know some real sweethearts who are "preps." You can look at the smash community, and you'll see a huge diversity of people. Jocks, preps, nerds, grubs etc. Almost everyone is friends with one another, regardless of where they are on the social ladder.
Hollister etc are just brands of clothing. It doesn't change the attitude of the people wearing them. I wear American Eagle all the time, and I think i'm pretty darn nice most of the time. >=[
Sometimes, the popularity goes to peoples heads and they become conceited etc. I don't think it has anything to do with what they wear or how they dress.
