First of all I'd like to commemorate this moment. This is officially my first thread. :)

It would seem that button delay is, unfortunately, a very common occurrence in brawl online play. Whether it be "With Anyone" online or "With a Friend" there is always an annoying button delay spanning anywhere between 0.3sec and 2.0 sec above normal. After testing out friend mode a few times (and getting my rear handed to me i might add) I was glad to find that there was significantly less lag than there is in Anonymous battles. That goes without saying, the lag wasn't completely gone.

Since this is a thread about prediction I'd like to pose a question. Are there truly people out there who brawl with minimal to no button lag, or is it simply that they've grown accustomed to the delay?

After challenging two very skilled players I was shocked to find that, despite the button delay, they were able to side step/ perfect shield/ shield grab/ air dodge/etc. my attacks with ease. Contrariwise, I found it very difficult to perform much more than a badly timed roll dodge.

Provided both of us are suffering from a button lag of roughly the same amount, that would mean that my opponent was actually reading and guessing my moves a spit second before hand, allowing them to react to and counter my moves.

Offensively as well, things like combos and chain grabs become much more difficult to execute under button delay.

Before I go about completely rewiring my strategy, I'd like to know if button lag is simply something I need to get used to, or if its possible to get rid of it somehow. In brawl, there's nothing more frustrating than not being able to fight at full potential.

Thanks in advance for all of your reply's.

I am pretty sure their is button lag no matter who you play.

It just might be a little bit better depending on who you play.

This is exactly why I hate online lol.

Lag is probably pretty dependent on the quality of your connection, but there will always be a noticable amount of it (unless you live in japan O_o). To compensate for this, the number of frames you can buffer moves in advance is a bit larger. I think some other stuff is different too, but I don't know all the details.

Online play is pretty weird, and I'm not personally a fan of it. However, lots of players do practice online, and it can help you get better.

It's pretty different tho. Shenanigans that don't really work irl can work more online since every action has to be anticipated relatively far in advance. I think there might have even been a seperate wifi tier list made at one point?

If you play against people from your country there should be minimal lag (6 frames) which is bearable for practicing purpose.
