Practicing Tech Skill on emulator

Right now I'm away from home and don't have the luxury of bringing my CRT and melee with me. I'm trying to improve my tech skills on C. Falcon and I'm practicing on the dolphin emulator on my computer. I'm still pretty bad so I'm not really practicing anything fancy. So far it's just simple things like FJ backwards waveland, ledge cancels, as well as other techniques.

Would the practice on emulator be that much different than a CRT? Is the lag difference that big, if any? I just don't want to be so used to the emulator and then have it all messed up once returning to a regular television. Any input would be appreciated.

Chances are your screen/monitor has a decent amount of lag, so yeah it would make a difference and especially so when it comes to the techniques you mentioned which rely heavily on visual cues. I'm not sure what to tell you though

Do you have access to the standard controller? That is the biggest difference is getting use to a different style of controller. Additionally, it is not uncommon for the frame rate to drop even on decent laptop. There is much to brainstorming and using dolphin with a debug code to simply check combo options and think of what you might do in certain situations.

I have the Wii U adapter and I'm using the regular gamecube controller so I don't think there's problem there. Chances are I'm not using any specific codes when running the game either. I just run the game and have the FPS counter running when I'm playing usually it stays around 60 and only drops when I switch programs.
