Practicing on a HD LCD TV?

I do not personally have a CRT TV at my house and am only able to practice on a HD TV. Is it a bad thing to do in terms of the lag and will it make me perform worse on CRT TVs as my timing may be different on HD TVs for moves and chain grabs etc?

You will need to readjust to lesser lag & different timings on a CRT TV once you've practiced on a laggy HD TV. Whether or not it's a bad thing I cannot say. I would advice you to not to get used to laggy screens when playing Melee since CRT:s (and other low-lag options) are the standard. For serious training & playing, get a CRT.

You'll definitely want a CRT. I got 3 for 30 bucks a few weeks ago, so you can probably get one for very little cost. I would avoid practicing on a laggy TV because it can mess up your timings.

If it's possible to get a CRT, get a CRT

If it's not possible to get a CRT, set your HDTV to game mode or if it doesn't have it, disable all image-enhancing effects. Get component cables to cut the lag in half (Composite can only send a 480i signal. HDTVs need to deinterlace them, which takes time. Component cables can send 480p signals so HDTVs don't need to deinterlace them

Playing the game will still improve you until you're good enough to notice the lag too much to tolerate it anymore
