I started to get serious about Smash just under a year ago. It was my first semester of college and I roomed with my two high school friends who trained me in the art of Smash 4 nearly everyday until Ultimate released. Sadly, I only had my 3DS to use as a controller, until I bought my own Switch a few weeks before Ultimate came out. As of now, I have a group of friends I play with consistently, and I am excited to go to my first couple tournaments in the Denver area.
The only thing stopping me is my near-constant controller issues. I got a Nintendo Pro Controller the day Ultimate released, and the control stick started drifting downwards so badly that it was unusable by June. I decided to convert to Gamecube, and being a poor college student, went with PowerA's wired (Nintendo licensed!) controller for about $35. I got my first one nearly a month ago, and both ZL and ZR stopped working entirely within 3 hours of use. I redeemed the warranty and finally got another one this week, which also broke in the same exact way, only this time it broke in under 30 minutes.
I have tried to manually fix them by adjusting the trigger mechanisms inside the controller, which will definitely cause my warranty to be denied, but at this point I don't care. I'm extremely frustrated that I can't find a functioning controller within an average price range, and the worst part is that all of my broken controllers all have glowing reviews at almost every retailer.
I just wanted some feedback and to see if anyone else has had as much trouble as I have. Also if anyone can recommend a consistent Gamecube controller I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for checking out my first forum post! Can't wait to get into my first tourneys and meet all of y'all!
