Hey guys, I was browsing through some videos and I remembered that power shielding in brawl can be canceled into an attack. I want to know if this is technique can be still used in Smash 4 and what moves it can intercept, most notably Sonic's Spin dash.

Here is the initial thread made about it by GimR http://smashboards.com/threads/power-shield-canceling-psc-new-at.294888/
Article on Smashwiki: http://www.ssbwiki.com/Power_shield_canceling

I would really appreciate if you guys can help me figure out it still works!

In short, if you shield at the proper time any projectiles will bounce off your shield and not weaken it. Other single hit attacks on your shield will also not weaken your shield. Both instances will also stop any delay you'd normally receive after your shield takes a hit, thus allowing you to immediately react after shielding the hit. There's no other special technique required besides activating the shield at the right time and then dropping it to jump/grab/attack.

You can not Power Shield multihits, such as Sonic's ridonk dash attack. His Spin Dash is a single homing hit when used midair, so it can be Power Shielded. I think his grounded Spin Dash is considered a multihit attack when used to roll on you or past you.

This is not what I asked about. I know what a Power shield is, how it works, and what it does. And in the video, it displayed power shielding meta knight's tornado(a multi hit move) and canceling it into a jab or grab.

Me explaining it is for other people. Also, me explaining it in a SSB4 subsection is another way to say "yes it can be done; hence why I'm explaining it in laymen's terms in a SSB4 subforum."

You can Power Shield 1 hit from a multihit attack. Almost all multihits have hit lag when they connect. In between the hitlag is when you can grab. You can also do this with moving single hitboxes like Falcon Kick. The opponent will "freeze" in place long enough for you to retaliate... Most of the time. Since the move stops right on your shield, that usually moves your opponent's hurtbox into grabbing range.

I also believe that Power Shielding is time based and isn't just hit based, so it could potentially work against multihits if you shielded at the very last second. Although it probably would only cover the first 2 hits. That's my experience with Power Shielding in For Glory and sometimes offline. As a rule of thumb for myself, I just assume that Power Shielding will only work on 1 hit so I retaliate asap.

It's in SSB4 for sure.

There is even a tip about it in the game. I think there's actually 2 tips. *cough*

If you're looking to compile a list of moves PS can be used to block and then grab/retaliate, then it'd be easier to compile a list of moves that can't be PSC safely when taken head-on. So far I only got all specials that act like grabs... Naturally.

Brief testing with powershielding Samus' projectiles in training says PSC still exists; I can fsmash and dsmash out of it too, unlike what the wiki mentions for Brawl.
