Potential stage changes

overall, i like stages that have some sort of little gimmick, but there're a few that i just don't get.

Dreamland: wind. aside from "that's how it's always been," is there really a reason to keep the wind on it? unlike other stages with little gimmicks on a timer or at random that can benefit the fight in positive or negative ways, i've never seen the wind benefit anything for the better. it's not like other gimmicks that you can strategically use to get a small advantage if you're smart, it's just annoying...and any influence it can have on a fight is pretty much limited to pushing you off a ledge and causing you to die or get hit by something you'd otherwise block

Lylat Cruise: ledges. i'm so so glad the tilting is gone, but the ledges are still...frustrating. i've also noted in another thread, http://smashboards.com/threads/tether-recovery-on-lylat.345224/ (and got no response to), that most tether recoveries will be gimped simply by bonking your head on the underside of the stage because of the weird angle and the ridiculously thin area the ledge actually occupies. i think the stage would be made a lot more fair/not hated if the ledges were thickened slightly or at least making the underside not concave so you wouldn't be pushed underneath the stage for aiming for the ledge.

Dracula's Castle: camera issues. the thickness of the central tower and the big whatever-they-are around the corners make it really difficult to judge distance from the wall/ledge at a lot of angles. i think this stage would have a little better readability if the tower was a little thinner (not the width of the stage, just how far towards and away from the camera it goes) or if the plane of play was shifted towards the camera some so the camera would obscure less on either side of the tower.

is there any chance these issues could be addressed in future updates?

I've seen people use the wind on Dreamland a few times. Really, it's not that big of a deal, but I personally feel that it should be a second row counterpick, just for the stage's size and the wind, and we should bring a second row stage down to starter. Like, it's not that bad of a hazard, but given how a lot of PM's counterpicks could pass as starters in Melee or Brawl and might be able to pass here too, I feel like it's in the wrong row.

Lylat really takes practice. I think some people are hurt because they don't play the stage enough, but I'm not going to be presumptuous. For me, it's like playing FD on Brawl with those edges. It sucks, but you can get used to it.

In general, I wish this game would bring more of the Brawl Counterpicks into play (Delfino. Frigate, etc.) but I get that this community isn't into that. I also feel that they could have made Sonic's stage a bit bigger.

i'm curious how the wind could really be used consciously to your advantage, at least reliably. it just seems a little less useful than other stages' quirks and more an intermittent annoyance.

as for lylat, i'll admit that my qualms are partly because of my own scrubby-ness, but the ledges feel ridiculously worse than they already were in brawl. at least vbrawl's auto-snap made the ledges a little bit forgiving. my complaint is less a balance issue and more a fun issue. i can count the players i've met that actually enjoy the stage on one hand easily.

the tether thing, however, is definitely a balance issue tho. either the ledges need fixing or most all of the tether recoveries need attention. the fact that it's not an issue on any other stage tho makes me feel like fixing the ledges to be a little less evil would fix both problems in a way i don't think many people would complain about

Is there any chance we can get the old Brawl stages back too? I get how they were all refined for tournament play, but it would be nice to have some fun casual stages as well. Is it even possible to have both a "safe" and "hazardous" version of each stage?

I still don't understand why castle siege is not frozen on its first section, or at least modified to use the visuals of the first section. I think the castle scene looks beautiful and I would love to play it if it didn't constantly change forms.

Seriously! Does anyone know why it's not frozen on the castle section?!

In Pokémon Stadium 2, it still says "Stage Type: Normal" in the background.

Well, like...duh.

Is it hard to remove? I know it can be modified though, since Mewtwo and Roy's name show up in there when they were never there in the first place.

Lylat Cruiser edges. I like how it tilts the battlers around with it, thus changing playstyle ever so slightly. But the edges are just. . . You know what they are. :c

Castle Siege needs to be two maps. The first map has its very distinct blast zones and platform positioning. The underground map on the other hand is a giant uneven seesaw (like Lylat cruiser minus the super unforgiving tilting ledges or platforms smashed together). Having the maps separate would make the most out of them, I think. It'd also be like "Bam, free stage without needing to set up an entirely new one!"

Final Destination. . . The new one was way prettier and compact. It forced more of a in your face type of play because of the different blast zones and smaller platform. The melee FD is very large and awesome, but some of us don't really want to play stock matches where we need to get our opponents to 200% to finally KO them. . . And again, Brawl's FD is really pretty. So one would be like, FD Lite and the other is FD Fat.

Pokemon Stages. . . One working and the other one not working would be nice. I'd say let the Brawl one work properly because the only reason to have it on is for casual play or fun. And what's more fun than ice, conveyor belts, and giant fans? D:

Rainbow Cruise. It's like the pirate stage minus the hazards and plus the actual fear of death by falling off. Is there a way to make the boat just fly in a loop (loop the background) and adjust the blast zones a bit? I think it'd be a very fun stage if it were stationary, but still looked like it was flying. It's pretty much a classic in Melee because it was a very fun moving stage for when you wanted to play casually. So it should probably stay in some shape or form.

I'd like the 2nd section of castle siege to be added back without a walkoff.

The starter stages should be completely revamped to promote balanced stage choices. It is impossible to ban all 4 stages with the triangle platform layout. I would personally advocate the stages in customized content to improve stage choices. Metal Cavern, for example, only needs a graphical upgrade and blast zone adjustments to make it a perfectly viable starter stage.
