Besides using Amiibos, I think another way to have people participating in tournaments and wanting to use custom movesets they've created for Mii Fighters and Palutena would have to be using the Nintendo 3DS.

Basically, at a set up, there would be an option on the character selection screen where it would allow the player to connect their 3DS to Wii U. Essentially, the 3DS is being used a "User Profile Tag" that stores data such as custom movesets, controls, bonus rewards for winning a match against another player, etc.

Once that option is selected, a code will pop up that will expire in 120 seconds. It's a 5-digit unique code that must be inputted on the 3DS so the Wii U can seamlessly sync with the player's 3DS. This will prevent mistakes of logging into surrounding Wii Us.

That Wii U will essentially temporarily store that data. The player might possibly be able to have the 3DS closed in sleep mode.

After the match(es), all the player has to do is hit the "Disconnect" button and that data is already synced to the 3DS seamlessly while the match was playing out. The player may even receive rare trophies based on performances or even custom parts for their characters.

The Wii U stores the "User Profile Tag", including records, controls, custom movesets, etc so the player doesn't need to always sync up if they want to play again. Of course, if they made changes, they'll have to sync their 3DS back up and the tag should automatically update based on changes made.

--------

I'm thinking something like this may be implemented and I hope it is the case. I'd love to use my custom Miis and Palutena movesets the way I see fit and because I care so much about trophies and collectibles, it'd be a great bonus and incentive to bring my 3DS to these tournaments and have things ready for me directly at the selection screen without having to back out to change controls or what have you. It is all seamless.

What do you guys think?

I'd rather people just do it before the match
That's the point. Before the match starts, sync the 3DS to that Wii U at the selection screen and no need to back out to make adjustments. This idea is about efficiency. At most this should only take 10 seconds.

Depending where you navigate to costum moves would determine it's viability honestly.

If you can change moves on the CSS so everyone can see what you're picking that'd be cool. Also, it should be limited to a pull down bar similar to choosing your tag on the CSS. It allows free movement for everyone and is less of a hassle and 2 or 4 people can all costumize moves at the same time, saving everyone time.

If costum moves are chosen beyond the CSS, it would be too convoluted, boring, a hassle, and honestly a drag.

Custom moves should also be permanently in play until a set ends. What I mean by this is once someone chooses a specific custom move, they should not be able to change until they play a different person/set. And to be clear, they canot even revert to the default moveset.

Just my 2 cents. But that's if Custom moves are even tournament worthy. Imo, I'm against it, but I'm actually starting to consider it day by day.

Hm, I don't think you're understanding:

The custom moves are already pre-set. The movesets are already done on 3DS. All that information is stored on the "User Tag" that's on the 3DS. The player just needs to sync up their 3DS to the Wii U to have those movesets and control options transferred over. This is similar to the WiiRemotes storing data and you're able to upload your tag along with controls options seamlessly in Brawl.

I think custom moves will never be the standard in tournies. If it doesn't waste too much time with setup, and isn't insanely imbalanced, I'm sure we'll see side events with it though.

Why? Unless the a large amount of the moves are banned, it adds complexity to the game.

But you might want to use different custom moves depending on what character the other player has picked, meaning your preset could potentially be pointless considering you'd have to change them anyway.

I really have no idea why people are worrying about this so much, you're going to be able to change your moves via the CSS.

Look at sakurais recent PotD, he says that they're disabled in anonymous play because people aren't able to use "reliable tactics".

Now, what's the difference between playing randoms and playing with friends? In randoms you're not all on the CSS together, you pick a character, then go into a training room until you can join a game. With friends you all see the same CSS before the game starts.

So with friends you're able to use reliable tactics but in randoms you aren't, and what's the one difference between the two? The fact that the CSS is there.

It would be insanely stupid to have custom moves outside of the CSS due to all the time it adds to the game at all levels, do you really think casuals would bother that much with customisable moves if they had to keep exiting out of the CSS every other game just to try out a different move?

If it doesn't waste time and they aren't imbalanced, what's the point of not having them at tournaments considering the potential for depth and helping out unfavourable matchups?
