Potential problem for SSB3D tournaments?

Hey everyone,

I've been planning to host a SSB3D release party tournament the Sunday after the NA launch, and in doing so I've stumbled upon a problem: how do you enforce good sportsmanship and stop stalling in a handheld game?

In console based SSB games, spectators are pretty much a given, and so there are inevitably witnesses when someone is stalling a match. However, in the 3DS version, the game will be far more private. As a result, unsportsmanlike conduct may go unchecked. My idea so far is to tell players to report that their opponent is stalling right away, at which point a staff member would (hopefully be available to) watch the game over the reporter's shoulder. However, the stalling player could then just resume the match, and precious time would have already been wasted. I feel it would also be rather uncomfortable to have someone watching over my shoulder and crowding my personal space, and that might have an adverse effect on gameplay. Furthermore, with pausing turned off, the reporting player would only be able to shout something to get a staff member's attention-- raising a hand or the like wouldn't really be an option haha. Altogether, it feels like a less than ideal solution.

Does anyone have a better idea about how to approach this? I would love to hear any and all suggestions.

A solution could be the capture cards (of course, this is an expensive solution). You would be able to see the game played on the big screen and catch any stalling and any bad sportsmanship.
Sadly, since the CCs are limited to the original 3DS, those with other systems would not have viewing (unless one of the players (2 or 4) plays with a 3DS).
A problem I see is those bringing a 3DS or their game if they bought a physical game, like those who forget to bring controllers.

I'll keep capture cards in mind. Hopefully one that works with both sizes will be made soon. Even barring being a good stall deterrent, it could be cool to have something like that for everyone to see final rounds.

As much as it would suck to travel to a tournament and forget something like your 3ds, I don't think that's something a tournament director should be responsible for. In Magic: the Gathering, for instance, if you forget to bring your deck, you're not gonna play that day. It's up to the player to bring what they need. I can certainly understand the disadvantage compared to console based SSB games, given a spare controller is likely easier to come by than a spare 3ds/copy of the game. Still, I don't foresee it being a big problem.
