Smash Wii U possibly canceling toon links dair

so I was playing smash 4 with friends. I was playing as Marth and a friend was playing too link. they didn't have a GameCube adapter so I had to use the wiiu pro controller so I constantly mixed up conrols. he would down air and I would mean to shield but would accidentally grab. I started to notice that even at 150%, his down air wouldn't knock me back or move me at all as long as I would grab right before he hit me. this got me thinking. does this always work? with every character? and if so, would this ruin toon link and remove one of his main kill moves? if someone could test this out for me (since I don't have the game or system) that would be wonderful

Uh huh... I believe you have just learned teching. Congratulations! Use it for any move that hits you into the ground or wall and you won't go flying~
Also, D-Air is hardly even close to being any of Toon Link's main kill moves.
