Port Won't Recognize Ethernet Cable?

So I recently got high-speed internet, but I'm having problems setting it up. I plug the Ethernet cable into the port on the back of the computer, but it's not being recognized. Furthermore, when I went to CMD and did IPCONFIG /ALL, it says 'media disconnected.'

What can I do to fix this?

Either the cable or your NIC is boned.

Or perhaps the router. Try swapping out the cable / router, and if it still fails, you need a new NIC.

So will I have to get a new adapter? I'm certain that the cable and the modem are working properly...

Connect another computer where you're connecting yours, via the same cable. If it works, go out and buy another Network Interface Card to swap out with the one currently on your comp.

Do you think that a USB Ethernet Adapter would be fine?
