Port priority...?

Don't hesitate to remove this thread if it's incorrect. I also want to say that this isn't necessarily about evidence of port priority but rather the possible fixing of it. This entire thread is written off what might be false knowledge and I will remove it if that's the case.

I've been playing the demo for a couple of days lately and been having a bit of fun with it. A couple of games ago me and a CPU went into sudden death where we killed each other at the exact same time. There was no delay between deaths and the stats showed that we both got the KO. (Unless sudden death doesn't count toward the death count but I assure you they were at the same time). Still the game ended and the CPU won.

Did the game pick a random winner? Or was there something else determining this?

I know we don't do sudden deaths in competitions but I'm wondering, if the game does determine the winner of a sudden death match by randomly picking one, or by some strange other factor, what else could this effect?

The only evidence I have of this are stat screen caps, which I will provide if needed, but maybe testing can help us find the answer.

I have no way of testing this, and it'd be hard for anyone too without some insane setup but I think this, while minor, could have some very slight impact on the competitive side. Or maybe just something interesting to document.

Playing on the demo myself, I've noticed sudden death kills do not count towards your KO counter, so that's irrelevant.

As for who counted as winning... I dunno? Are there any examples of tying in Sudden Death in previous games in the series? That would probably explain it.

...Otherwise, perhaps you died a few frames before the CPU did, counting as a CPU win. IDK.

Quick Edit: Yes, I am aware that historically you only "Visibly die" when you actually die, AKA your percentage disappears and the game records it. Maybe the rules changed or something.

In previous Smash games the winner of a sudden death match if both players died on the same frame was determined by port priority, that's why I was curious

Would be interesting to see if this is still the case, and if so, if the 3DS follows the same rules.

The CPU's, while not actually taking up a controller port, still abide by the rules of port priority.

After spending a while testing this, I believe that it is random, similar to Brawl.

Is it possible that other things may be affected by this, grabs and such? Also thanks for testing this
