i feel how i'm forced to make a post only for this vid

i'm watching around 40 1 vs 1 matches in different sites, but this just made me cry of emotion

Maybe it's just me, but that video looks a lot like how my friends and I used to play melee before we knew advanced techniques. I guess that could be good or bad depending on who you are.

Psh, no competitive play my ***. As far as I'm concerned the Advanced Techs. were handicaps for true skill. Now if you lose, you'll know it's because you lost to a person who really is better than you, not to a person who can wavedash with more efficiency.

Theres a deficit of aerials being used. The game play is definitely much different than melee. I agree Konwukulups, this does remind me of how we used to play melee before we discovered advanced techs.

If someone can wavedash more efficiently than they are better than you, sorry hate to break it to you. Imagine two players that are proficient in advanced techs, one looses and the other winds 9 times out of 10. The player that one is the one that is better for he has more "true skill" as you put. Now take two players. one uses anvanced techs and the other doesnt. The first player wins 10 times out of 10. That player is the one who is better for he has more "true skill" to learn and utilize the techs which can be very difficult and more "true skill" for winning the matches.

That is a pretty awesome match. I'll admit that I've been more in awe by Melee matches in the past though.

Watching Starfox characters fight on a MGS stage is pretty funny actually.

I loved watching this, quite exciting! This reminds me of how me and my friends used to play Melee before they got into the whole advanced techniques stuff. Epic-style fighting gameplay is way better than just sliding around the screen every second. :B

While this stage does have walls, I think we might have to knock competiitve play down to 3 stock. If we were to have 3 game matches where each game goes 6-7 minutes then big tournaments would take forever.

Not too impressed by it. Too much back-and-forth attacks and trading blows. Too much rolling too. Aesthetically it was awesome though, but its just that nothing really happened...

The stage looks great. I like using walls for combos so this might be a fun competitive stage maybe?

If a person were to take the time to carefully calculate the delay after each skill and carefully take the time to construct combo's that could be pulled off realistically in game thanks to this prior-research could we both agree that this person had skill? In Melee it seemed people had the tendency to skip over mastering a specific player and just went straight to the Advanced Techs. It became a game where the person who exploited the most glitches in the physics system became the winner. Is this not a handicap? Maybe it's my definition of "true skill" that's skewed here, but personally I couldn't be happier with this specific time in the Brawl life-span. A time where people are playing the characters they are really interested in, not one who's higher on the tier list or who is able to exploit X glitch better than others.

This match gives me high hopes for the future of SSBB competitive play. On another note i'm really curious to know how this match would've played out on a different map.

I don't see why everybody is so bitter about exploiting glitches and is so quick to call it shameful. It happens in practically every fighting game and we've proven through 6 years of competitive play that it only helps expand options and doesn't exclude viable characters nor does it give unfair advantages. Besides, Melee was much more varied than Smash 64. No matter who is higher on the tier list, you do have to change up your playing style if you maybe want to main Pikachu or something.

There is no point in discussing "True Skill" either, since it just feels like such an egotistic and purist term. You can't call the decision for your opponent to not use a skill a "handicap." If I beat my friend because he decided he wasn't going to attack me, I'm not winning with a handicap, so why is it any different if my friend refuses to L-cancel?

I've been thinking the same thing, all the matches I've seen lately have been 6ish minutes. That's awesome and all, but might be a bit much
