Smash Lord
I know that over the past week people have had a lot to talk about and speculate over the new Smash Bros., but I haven't seen many people talking about what X and Y could bring to the series.
Some background:
Brawl was first talked about before E3 2005, and development started on it in October of the same year. It wasn't until E3 2006 that we actually got footage of Brawl for the first time. Diamond and Pearl, however, had been talked about since 2004. It was released on September 28, 2006 in Japan, while Brawl was released considerably later, on Japan 31st, 2008.
Now the interesting thing about Brawl and Diamond and Pearl is that they had over a year's worth of gap between their release dates. Pokemon X and Y were only first shown on January 8th of 2013, about 5 months before this recent Smash Bros. reveal. However, the key difference was that X and Y were a surprise reveal, and a lot of work had been put into them before they were first shown. The period of development is anyone's guess, but the 3DS itself has been on the market since February 26th 2011 - almost two years. Pokemon X and Y will release worldwide on October 12th, 2013, while the next Smash Bros. game will come out sometime in 2014.
So what does all of this mean? Well it appears likely that there will not be as large a gap between the release of X and Y and Super Smash Bros. 4 as there was between Diamond/Pearl and SSBB. However, the actual size of the release gap depends on when Smash Bros. 4 actually will be released, and it seems likely that there will be at least a half a year gap between the release of the two games, and maybe more. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was chock full of content relating to Diamond and Pearl, including new Pokemon from the Poke Ball item, a new stage based off the games, and even a new character - Lucario - who debuted in that generation. But without as large a development gap between X and Y and SSB4, will there be nearly as much content from X and Y in Smash Bros. 4 as there was D/P content in Brawl? I've made this thread for any discussions relating to X and Y in the new Smash games - how much content, how little content, what content will be used, and what unkown elements from X and Y could end up in the new Smash. One of the interesting things about X and Y is that we know very little about it now, and so it leaves so much possibility for the new Smash Bros. that it really deserves talking about.
I look forward to your thoughts and opinions.
