I know that over the past week people have had a lot to talk about and speculate over the new Smash Bros., but I haven't seen many people talking about what X and Y could bring to the series.

Some background:

Brawl was first talked about before E3 2005, and development started on it in October of the same year. It wasn't until E3 2006 that we actually got footage of Brawl for the first time. Diamond and Pearl, however, had been talked about since 2004. It was released on September 28, 2006 in Japan, while Brawl was released considerably later, on Japan 31st, 2008.

Now the interesting thing about Brawl and Diamond and Pearl is that they had over a year's worth of gap between their release dates. Pokemon X and Y were only first shown on January 8th of 2013, about 5 months before this recent Smash Bros. reveal. However, the key difference was that X and Y were a surprise reveal, and a lot of work had been put into them before they were first shown. The period of development is anyone's guess, but the 3DS itself has been on the market since February 26th 2011 - almost two years. Pokemon X and Y will release worldwide on October 12th, 2013, while the next Smash Bros. game will come out sometime in 2014.

So what does all of this mean? Well it appears likely that there will not be as large a gap between the release of X and Y and Super Smash Bros. 4 as there was between Diamond/Pearl and SSBB. However, the actual size of the release gap depends on when Smash Bros. 4 actually will be released, and it seems likely that there will be at least a half a year gap between the release of the two games, and maybe more. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was chock full of content relating to Diamond and Pearl, including new Pokemon from the Poke Ball item, a new stage based off the games, and even a new character - Lucario - who debuted in that generation. But without as large a development gap between X and Y and SSB4, will there be nearly as much content from X and Y in Smash Bros. 4 as there was D/P content in Brawl? I've made this thread for any discussions relating to X and Y in the new Smash games - how much content, how little content, what content will be used, and what unkown elements from X and Y could end up in the new Smash. One of the interesting things about X and Y is that we know very little about it now, and so it leaves so much possibility for the new Smash Bros. that it really deserves talking about.

I look forward to your thoughts and opinions.

First of all, I would like to post my two cents about what confirmed element of X and Y I think will have the most effect on the Smash Bros. games...

For those of you unaware, this IS Mewtwo, or at least his new forme. In Pokemon X and Y, Mewtwo will have the ability to transform between this and his original forme somehow, though how he can is currently unclear, besides the fact that a clip from the upcoming movie seems to show that he has the ability to do this at will. This was one of the first pieces of information we've heard about X and Y, and likely means that this was planned early in development of the games. Not only does this mean Mewtwo will become more relevant again in the main series, but it also means that he has another shot at being playable in Smash Bros. again, probably with his new forme in tow. What do you guys think? Will Mewtwo return as a character with this transformation as an alternate character, similar to Zelda/Shiek or Samus/Zero Suit Samus? Or will it be a Final Smash where he turns into it for a brief time? Or do you find it likely that Mewtwo will not be playable again at all? Once again, I'm eager to know you're thoughts.

I predict Mewtwo will make a comeback to SSB4 as he made a comeback to Pokemon. However, there is already a thread discussing this topic, a moderator might close this thread soon.

Really? I couldn't find any on X and Y in particular. Can you link me to it?

To be fair, that thread is about Pokemon as CHARACTERS in the new Smash Bros. My thread is about the upcoming Pokemon X and Y specifically and it's relations to SSB4, including Pokeball Pokemon, stages, characters, trophies, or lack thereof. I feel mine is sufficiently different, but I can understand if others feel this thread needs to be locked/merged.

Given that Sakurai picks Pokemon off of how they're advertised through media (movies), and that the roster is likely finalized by now, it really makes sense that it is Mewtwo's new forme. I'd be surprised if it was anything but, except for like Sylveon haha.

Yeah I think this thread should stay since it's purely for X/Y reps.

MewTwo with his new forms seems the most likely X/Y rep.
Here are the new starters who might have a chance with a pokemon trainer:

Hopefully they have some amazing looking evolutions because they look pretty bland so far aside from Chespin who I quite like.

Cept that Sakurai has access to information that we don't. So he could have theoretically chosen a Pokemon that we haven't even heard of yet.

Now I'm trying to imagine a playable Sylveon...

Um, anyways, here's another few things from X and Y I want to see in the new Smash Bros:

Trophies/Summons

-Noivern, obviously making him a character would be hard, but god is he an awesome Pokemon.
-Talonflame, thought I find his name a bit lacking in creativity, I LOVE his design.
-Sylveon is too damn cute to ignore, and it IS an Eeveelution after all.
-Gogoat... WAIT A DAMN SECOND. What if you could summon Gogoat out of a Pokeball and then press attack next to him to RIDE ON HIM AND RAM HIM INTO OPPONENTS for the length of the summon? Someone, get Sakurai on the phone!
-Flabébé is both the smallest and lightest Pokemon in existence, did you know that? It would be criminal not to include such an adorable little thing in my violent fighting game.

Stages
-Xerneas/Yveltal stage on the 3DS versions of Smash Bros would be awesome. of course, we don't know where you will actually FIND them in the region, let alone if it will be in the same place or more like Gold/Silver where the legends appear in two different locations... maybe a Mushroomy Kingdom type stage?
-Lumiose City, since it looks so damn beautiful. I'd love to know more about it though.

Obviously we don't know everything about the games yet, but these things stood out the most to me out of the revealed info. as much as Smash possibilities go. Maybe we'll get another Pokemon revealed that I'll want to play as, like maybe Gen 6's Lucario equivalent? Only time will tell. I can't wait to get more psyched for both these games as more info. comes out.

I see, this seems like a semi-genuine thread if it's mostly about GenVI Pokemons. I really can't make an assured comment due to the lack of information about Pokemon X and Y, I'll tell you what I think when I perceive decent amount of information ;)

Would love to fight in Lumose City, especially with the Eiffel Tower. Now THAT would be amazing.

Neanderthal mentioned it briefly in his post, but it is assumed that Mewtwo will get two new formes, as opposed to just this Awakened Forme. In May, someone stepped forward with a bunch of rumours, claiming he was in contact with someone connected to the development of the games. He mentioned some things that would be hard to predict, such as the first gym leader using the Bug type and greater visibility of EVs, but also things that'd be near impossible to predict, such as the English names for Gogoat, Helioptile, Fletchling and Panchum, but also the new Fairy type and Sky Battles.

It's now generally accepted that this person's leaks are true, and these are two bits of his information (spoilered just in case):

  • Mewtwo has two new formes, not just one. Both are activated via items. (May 11th)
  • If the previously revealed forme of Mewtwo can be said to look roughly similar to Mewtwo’s original design, the second supposed form of Mewtwo can be said to look roughly/vaguely similar to Mew‘s design. (May 18th)

With that in mind, I'm not daring to put any money on his Awakening forme to appear. While I think Mewtwo himself will be back, his new formes can go either way.

To each their own , but honestly: the Kanto starters look just as bland in their basic stage. Rose-tinted glasses make them appear less bland, I reckon.

No Pokémon we don't know yet will appear as playable, it just wouldn't make sense. There needs to be some popularity to get the character rolling (and get less backlash for including the Pokémon), so if there would've been a new Pokémon they'd have revealed him already. If anything, Awakened Mewtwo is this generation's 'Lucario'.

I can definitely see Mewtwo making a (much wanted) comeback, whether it be his new Awakened Form, or the assumed mix of both forms. Personally, I would love to have his Awakened Form actually playable and not a timed, Giga Bowser-like Final Smash, assuming that's how they'd approach it.

Mewtwo is arguably the most wanted character for Smash 4. His comeback into the Pokemon series makes him a relevant character again, this implies that he's going to make a comeback.

I think we're just going to get a pokemon stadium stage again but who knows maybe a stage were the legendarys are located like a spear pillar type stage. As for charcters maybe a new pokemon trainer and mewtwo's awakened form but if Sakurai does that for the love of god don't make him like how he plays in melee I love mewtwo and I don't want what's know as the strongest pokemon to not be strong.

splat why do you have an image of Phoenix from GX and under that you write Mach Rider? Is that on purpose?

Jigglypuff has the potential to have a new move set with her new Magic type moves.
I never thought of that... so Jigglypuff is a Fairy type now, as well. Does that mean she might finally get a movepool change to utilize new fairy moves? That might be kind of cool, considering she's HORRIBLE in Brawl. Change might be exactly what she needs.

I don't think they'll have any make it in as playable.
Other than Mewtwo's new forme, I bet none of the Pokemon form X and Y revealed so far are going to be in any way playable in the next Smash Bros. game. However, that isn't to say that we won't see ANYTHING from X and Y show up in the game, most notably the changes to Mewtwo and Jigglypuff previously listed. Also, the Poke Ball item will most likely include a lot of gen 6 Pokemon in it, as well as maybe a stage or two inspired by the games. Obviously as more about both games gets revealed speculation will transfer across one game to another, which makes this whole situation rather interesting.

Yes, it is on purpose. I really dislike the redesign he got for his Melee trophy - I think Mach Rider should be blue with a white helmet, the new gray redesign takes away from his originality, makes him look a bit bland, even; I support white helmet Mach Rider, gray helmet not so much. I didn't want to put his sprite there (seeing as the rest of them are all 3D), so I had to look for something that somewhat resembles Mach Rider - Phoenix was the only thing I could find with a white helmet. As for the F-Zero style, Mach Rider is my top pick for a second "F-Zero rep", despite not stemming from the series - I think Falcon and Rider could have great synergy.

Remember that between Melee and Brawl, Jigglypuffs moves didn't change that much. She was just nerfed too much.
I can see some pinkish effects being added to her moves to reflect her new typing, but I don't think she'll get too much actual new moves..

I can see them showing off some of the new Fairy moves on some of the new fairy type. Wouldnt mind seeing them bringing back Gardevior with a new move kind of like they did with Suicuine
