PM Random Character Switch

It would be really cool if you could assign a tag with a set of characters. When you select random, you only random between the set of characters associated with your tag. Often, I like to random but there are characters I don't like to play as. Or sometimes I just want to play 3 characters against my buddy without having to counterpick either intentionally or accidentally. Can the PMBR team add this option to the tag creation screen?

That would honestly be pretty cool for people who play a decent amount of characters. I main Peach and Zelda, but second Ivy and ZSS, and having this would be a great option so I could just have the game pick for me instead of debating each time I'm not focusing solely on my mains

It would probably be better to just add a "Random Character Switch" screen that can be accessed through "More Rules" (right next to "Random Stage Switch") where you can toggle on and off which characters can be played by selecting Random on the character select screen.

When I read the title, I thought you were just suggesting a random character for the game. :/
I really like this idea, as I don't have the balls to random. No more logically cycling through characters each match!

its a nice idea, tho the fun of random is that you dont know what character you would get...

But then wouldn't this apply to both players? Say my friend plays Sonic and Ike but I play all the people I play. I don't think he would want to end up playing Peach while I swing around with Ike haha

Having a random character switch for each name would take a lot more work to implement into the game (and would take up more space on your Wii per name). Whereas, there is a nice spot right next to the "Random Stage Switch" in the "Brawl" options where the PMBR could put a "Random Character Switch". And the personal random character switch defeats the purpose of picking random. An over all random character switch would be better suited to the game because, if you choose random, you want a random character. But we all know, that even though we want a random character, there are those few characters we just don't want to play. So you just turn off those characters you REALLY don't want to have to play as, and you still get to play as a randomly picked character.

(If you have several mains, and you just can't choose one, just cycle through your mains as you play)

Orrrr if they really wanted to implement something like this, they could just bring back Melee's random selection and you stop when you land on a character you want to play.

It could also be done based on port. Maybe make it like the stage select screen where you x-out stages.
For example, say you want to play zelda, link, toon link, and ganon. If you're plugged into port 1, hit x over the zelda icon, and a red circle now appears in the corner of the zelda icon. (Red for port 1, Blue for port 2, Yellow for port 3, Green for port 4 - same as it has always been fort port colors) Then hit x over the link icon, and a red circle now appears in the corner of the link icon. Continue for toon link and ganon. When you place your character select button on random it randoms between the characters you have the red icons on. As long as the game stores your choices while the game is on, it's good enough for a session. No need to store it with every tag.
