Can anyone help me translate this quote?

“I count him braver who overcomes his desire, than him who overcomes his enemies.”
–Aristotle

Translate into what? It's already in clear English, isn't it?

In Dutch it would be:
"Ik vind hem moediger, hij die zijn verlangens overwint, dan hij die zijn vijanden overwint".

Nice Dutch.
Sorry if i was unclear.
I meant translate into a deeper meaning. Like more than meets the eye.

Example:
Quote: My Friend is one...who takes me for what i am
Translation: You shouldn't have to pretend to be friends with some one

All it means is that anyone who can overcome what he wants is better than beating his enemies.

Let's say you REALLY want a new car, but it won't help you, just look nice. Then you realize it's no good for you, you overcame your desire.

Thanks for the help. But what do you mean by "better"?
Stronger will power? Better moral values? Something else?

Thanks for the help though

Here's what I think:

Beating those things which you hate is much easier to do than to beat things which you like, or desire, but in actuality serve no helpful purpose. Thus, someone who can realize what's best for him and overcome his own desires is much more admirable than someone who can only fight against those things which he hates (his enemies).

Like it benefits him more to overcome what he wants than it does to beat his enemies.

Your worst enemy is yourself. By overcoming you, you achieve more than overcoming others.

It means that it takes more strength to give up on something that you really want after practically considering it than if you fight enemies.

Another thing to think about is that enemies are just that: enemies. It is not a brave thing to fight your enemies. It is, in fact, a normal thing, and everybody does it. You're hard-wired to do it. It is harder to not fight your enemies than to fight them (that's why nonviolence is often so difficult to achieve).

A much harder, braver thing to do is to fight yourself. This time, there is no clear opposition, and the enemy comes from within, where there is no clear distinction between "you" and "it". The outside world will not know if you have succeeded or failed, so it becomes more difficult to motivate yourself. That's why it's always a good idea to tell people around you when you're trying to lose weight, for example, because then other people know you're trying to achieve something, and it makes it easier to stay motivated.
