Playing in Japanese mode?

Seriously, why do people do this? From what I've seen all it changes are the character chants/cheers, it turns GAME into GAME SET, and it makes the menus a hell of a lot harder to navigate.

Am I missing something?

That's fine if you speak Japanese but I'm going to guess that a majority of the people that come to this english speaking board aren't japanese. As well the smash tournaments. Yet I've seen countless amounts of vids where people have their games set in japanese. (no, I'm not counting legit ones, like bombsoldier videos)

I can read some basic spanish but I wouldn't set my gc in spanish if I had the option.

well I know that in the 1.0 version (not sure about PAL) the Home Run Contest "table" is larger... though that has nothing to do with playing actually versus battles...

I wish I had that option. The PAL chants suck. Especially the Falco chant which is a dreary faaaaaaaaaaaaaal coooooooooooooo -_- instead of the cheery chant you hear in the japanese version. I dont know what the US version sounds like.

My crew usually switches back and forth between the two. Yeah, the menus are hard to read, but if you've moved all over the place in the english version, you pretty much know what they say even if you can't read Japanese. Personally, I prefer the Japanese mode for the cheers and different taunts (in terms of what they say and how they say it), even if that is pretty much the one distinct gameplay difference. The english mode, a lot of the cheers I would compare to dull zombies, but the japanese cheers are much more enthusiastic (take the contrast of Falco's two cheers, that's the one I hear the most anyway since so many people I know use falco...)

Plus, Jigg's taunt is just all the more annoying as "Purin" because it says its name twice

Though really, it makes no difference in the long run. Smash is still the same smash, doesn't matter the language (unless you compare the PAL version to NSTC version, but that's a completely different topic alltogether)

I wish PAL had a Japanese language option, or at least had extra/diferent cheers/taunts. At least we get Rondadoo and Pummeluff.

Another difference is instead of Bowser, his name is Koopa. Same thing with Jiggs, his name is Purin. DK becomes D Kong.

I love how the US/PAL crowd sounds drunk when cheering for Gdorf or Falco.
I prefer the Japanese mode because Falco's taunt actually says something.
And lol at Rondadoo. Sounds like a second-rate shampoo brand.

And I know wat you mean. Whenever you see vids of the WA smashers (Ka master, Gimpysish, Eggz, etc.) its in japanese. I guess some people just prefer it.

I really like it more in Japanese actually, the taunts sound better especially for Falco and Fox. I still laugh when i hear Captain Falcon say "Show me your moves" because everyone else taunts in a different language. Either way it doesn't matter, over time you memorize where all the menus are and navigating just by clicking the same old commands becomes natural.

In Japanese, Mewtwo has a voice. =o And Falco's taunt says something, and Fox has 2 different taunts, etc.

I like Mewtwo's voice. And I don't want to see Falco twirling like a ****** unless he says something. =o
