Platform Cancelling-useful tech for Lucas

For those of you that don't know, it's possible to stop directly on any moving platform when coming from below, completely stopping your momentum. This is done by jumping from below, holding down and pressing any attack command or shield right as you reach the level of the platform. Here is a video of it being done. http://youtube.com/watch?v=SK16zTBzIQQ

The only issue is that it only works on a platform that is moving in some way or another which limits when and where you can use it.

This technique is useful for Lucas because of his very slow second jump. Being able to cancel it on a platform not only is waaaay faster but also is very surprising for the opponent. It leads quite nicely into any smash attack.

I've tested every stage and these are the ones that it is possible to do it on in no particular order.

Luigi's Mansion (the small platforms that move up and down on the sides)
Mushroomy Kingdom (underground on the vertically moving platforms)
Rummble Falls (anywhere)
Pirate Ship (anywhere)
Yoshi's Island (only when the center platform is shifting)
Halberd (only when the platform is moving up and down when it's about to take off)
Lylat Cruise (only when it is tilting one way or the other)
Spear Pillar (vertically moving platforms on top)
Port Town Aero Dive (only when the large blue platform is raising or lowering)
Distant Planet (anytime that the leaves are in motion due to being touched by a player)Smashville (moving platform always)
Summit (anywhere)
Rainbow Cruise (anywhere)
Pokemon Stadium (only when the stage is transforming or trees when stepped on first)
Pokemon Stadium 2 (only when the stage is transforming)
New Pork City (the swinging ship)
Delfino Plaza (only while changing venues)
Onett (the trees when stepped on first)
Corneria (flying ships)
Skyworld (platform on the far right when top part destroyed and chain is extending/contracting)
Pictochat (occasionally on some platforms for no apparant reason)
Big Blue (floating platforms)

This is extremely good if you can force a tech on Lylat, because you can follow immediately with an upsmash if you get up there fast enough.

Pretty cool. Yoshi's Island and Smashville are two of my favorite stages, so I'll be able to make good use of this...

Something I'm having a tad of difficulty with is being able to attack and cancel onto the platform. Do you HAVE to use the c-stick for smashes to do this properly with smashes?

I can do it well with Lucas' Ftilt, which is very useful, since it'd be pretty surprising to an enemy if I were to jump up and hit them with such a fast attack. Very useful...

yes all characters can do it as far as I know. It just has to be a moving platform which isn't always convenient. I think you ought to be able to do it with or without the c-stick but I haven't really tried so I'm not sure. It seems like you have to use the attack button twice. The first attack platform cancelling and the second one attacking. Seems to work best that way for me but maybe I'm wrong.

Just was testing some more stuff with this and realized that this technique actually lets Lucas jump higher than he normally would. If you do a normal sized jump on Pirate Ship from directly beneath the first platform without platform cancelling you won't land on it but you can land on it with platform cancelling. Gives you a tiny little teleport.

Any character can do it on any platform, moving or not. It involves using an aerial right as you pass through the platform and having the game register you as landing instead of rising.

It's only possible on moving platforms. Unless you know of some alternate way of doing it that hasn't been shown yet. Some platforms are moving even if they don't look like it like the Lylat Cruise platforms and the Pirate Ship platforms.

I'm not completely sure if it's possible in Brawl, but in Melee you could do it on any platform. The new engine might not allow it on stationary platforms, whereas moving ones might be an exception. I'll try it out and see if it's possible on all platforms.
