Hello everybody! I've been in this community off and on for a little while, and wanted to ask you all for a little bit of input as I take the plunge into a bigger role. I've been running weeklies at my place in Richmond KY, and in the very near future will be hosting a Melee Tournament at a local game shop. I just need to solidify what all this event will encompass
Some things running through my mind:
A) Even though I have experience running tournaments at large LAN events, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew for my first smash event (even with help), and want to guarantee a smooth first tournament. So this first one might have a smaller scope as far as many games go. It might just be Melee singles (and doubles?) for the tournament and a Rivals of Aether side event. My heart is with these games and they'll come first before adding more. I could have the other games as side-setups, and maybe run their tournaments in future events. Will only running 1-2 tournaments be too limiting for people to come to Richmond KY?
B) Has anybody really put much thought into side events to attract new players, or let those who are a little more casual have their own fun? I've been brainstorming, but I want walk-ins / new people and other people to have something to latch onto as an introduction. Have you all done anything, or know of any examples in other events?
Thanks for reading and any replies . Dates (most likely Feb 21 or 28th) and final details should be coming very soon!
