PJK64 - controller issues

Trying to get my n64 controller to work for PJK64. I have a USB converter that I plug it into. I plug it in, turn it on (green light), load pjk64. When I go to options input config, I select 4 axis 16 button joy stick from the drop down menu, check plugged in, but when I attempt to load in the buttons it goes really fast (it's supposed to say like 6 seconds and allow me to press it, but it just flashes right away, so I can't load the buttons). Then if I exit on this setting, it seems to just be hitting start or something repeatedly and flies through all the screens, even though the fps is only 60.

I've had that problem multiple times before, and I can't remember what causes it.

Try (re-)calibrating your controller and restarting PJ64K.
