i was dashdancing really near the edge with link, and i randomly fell off and hogged the edge. is this an edgehog out of pivot? or just turning while sliding? i havent really seen this before, so i just want an answer... i tried searching for it but nothing came up

could this be useful? like, if you're very near the edge facing away from the stage, you could dash out and back in and take the edge. or if you're facing the stage, but too close to the edge to wavedash, you could dash out, in, and then hog.

how does it work though, and what characters does it work for?

it didnt seem like it was a particularly hard maneuver, considering people can pivot to smashes and tilts almost perfectly (not that i can)

It's actually very difficult, and most of the time it's done on fluke. It requires the action of pivoting a neutral stance (you know when you're standing still doing nothing? That's a neutral stance). It requires precise timing, speed and control on the joystick, but it basically works like any other pivot. You have to ever so slightly tilt the joystick after a dash and have it return to neutral, in 1 frame. Works the same as pivoting Fsmashes because you have to input the Fsmash in that 1 correct frame; therefore, you have to input the neutral stance in that 1 correct frame.

Now comes the even harder part: making it edgehog. It's basically that exact concept, except it has to be done exactly on the edge, at exactly the right point. I can't tell you where this exact point is located, but basically...you know when you walk up to the edge and go "whoa..."? That's your exact point. Now you have to try pivoting a neutral stance on that point.

Just stick to turning around and jumping onto the edge :(

You most likely did a moonwalk; have you seen videos with Link users doing Spin Attack near the edge and then falling off the stage and grabbing it? What they did is they moonwalked off the stage and then did Spin Attack during the moonwalk.

Read masterwumpus' guide here: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=81423&highlight=moonwalking

Anyway, not all characters can do it, so it's use is limited only to those characters on his list. Also, it's just too complex for my taste; I prefer wavedashing backwards for edgehogs.

no, i didnt moonwalk - although speaking of that, thats another way to edgehog when im facing the stage and too close to the edge to wd

lol i did it about 5 times with link after just dash dancing there for like a couple minutes.. so i thought that it might not be that hard, but oh well
thanks alot, guys - i guess this is the type of stuff Superdoodleman would pull off in Zero Mercy or something
