I've been playing pikachu a lot lately as well as watching some pikachu players such as ESAM for example.
One thing I noticed about ESAM's pikachu was his amazing off stage edgeguard with thunder.
I've been trying it out myself but when I went off stage and tried to thunder, the thunder itself would miss me and I would therefore SD. So if anyone could tell me how to pull of that edgeguard thunder it would be greatly appreciated!

Basically you need to stop any movement and do the 2nd jump followed by thunder. If you have a lot of momentum that can get hard.
Usually what I do is release the control stick and than jump then immediately thunder.

To pratice this you can go in any modes and just do a small jump offstage then use your 2nd jump and thunder. Once you get used to that try to just fall from the ledge, jump thunder. Once you get good, you can try to do eSam style fast fall of the ledge jump thunder.

Another thing you can do to get used to the jump before thunder is to grab the ledge, let yourself fall (tap Down) and then pratice the jump thunder. You should be able to go offscreen a little bit, jump thunder and be able to come back.

I would say the thunder is almost the easy part... Once you go deeper and deeper, the recovery get harder.

Hope this help :)

two things:
1) what Ormsson said is exactly right, you have to jump straight in the air or it will miss you and you won't get the elevation boost and the stop-fall from the thunder.
2) The bolt must actually hit you - on battlefield the thunderbolt can clip through the edge of the stage but if you can too far to the center it will hit the stag and not go through and then you're in trouble.

Practice practice practice... I still kill myself half the time when I try to pretend I'm esam but I'm working on it.

It can be a lot safer to, instead of doing off stage and letting it hit you.

Jump off, Jump back, then thunder.
I do that here:

I'm a real fan of the off-stage thunder.

But there's really no better way to kill yourself when playing online.

A much quicker way of pulling this off is by jumping off and doing a B-reverse Thunder. It's great because it doesn't forecast itself as much.

Using Thunder like the above is terrible, just shoot an air jolt for edgeguards-unless you wanna go deep for the beautiful Cloud spike

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about reverse thunder.
