Smash Journeyman
When Pikachu makes an appearance in a video game (take Hey You, Pikachu; or Pokemon Puzzle League for example), he always acts about the same. Cute, happy, and only somewhat of a threat, if at all. He's a well known mascot of the series, and he is made to appeal to the kids.
COULD Sakurai have taken the same route when including him in the SSE? Yes. He COULD have made him the basic rodent-in-distress, and allow Pokemon Trainer to steal the spotlight in an attempt to save his beloved Pikachu from the clutches of the Ancient Minister.
But what did Sakurai do? He made Pikachu FREAKING. COOL.
This Pikachu is PISSED OFF at the bad guys. In almost every scene with an enemy, he looks 100% GENUINELY PISSED at whoever is messing with him. (watch the videos for more details on why and how he looks/acts)
This is one of my favorite parts of SSE. Angry Pikachu. Frying-Ridley-out-of-the-Sky Pikachu.
Does anyone else agree with me?
