as of now, my favorite character and main is Marth. I played marth when i first started to learn, and now I know how to use him a bit better. Recently I took an interest in the spacies, and thought I should try and learn one of them in case marth won't cut it. Should I play Fox or Falco? what do I need to ask about my style to choose? and since I have only been playing for a bit over a month, should I even pick up a new character?

You shouldn't pick up a top tier character solely because they are top tier, you should play the character that feels the most natural and fluid to you. Whether that character is a spacie or Marth or even a completely different character is unknown to us, so just experiment and see which characters you like.

pick a character you enjoy playing

if u don't enjoy spacies, you won't make it far with them

marth is good enough to get you to the highest levels of melee anyway

u won't need to switch to a spacie until you're like top 10

Falco, this may be a bit biased as I play him (and kind of worship him), but I think you should go Falco after about 6 months of playing.

For whatever reason, a lot of Marth mains happen to have a preference for Falco over Fox, and a lot of Sheik mains prefer Fox over Falco. It could be the SH timing, general playstyle, or some other weird factor. Idk. Just an observation.

It seems so, I'm a Marth and Falco main, one of my friends is a Fox and Sheik.

Try both. Get a feel for each one and decide that way. They have an identical moveset but certain moves have different properties and both characters play different. Look at videos of each character. Whatever space animal fits your playstyle best is what you should go with.

You should try both of the spacies and which style fits you, But mind you must stick to that spacies so that you'll be used to the learning curve, like you did with :marthmelee:. Personally the spacie I'm trying to learn right now is :foxmelee: and the learning curve for him is very difficult because is very technical and a Fast Faller.

You must be very patient if you decide to main a spacie

Best of luck

Play who ever you feel is the best for you. Spacies don't automatically mean success, it's the character that you have a blast recking people with. Marth will cut it if you feel that he's the funnest character to play as.

Don't pick up a spacie unless it feels natural to you. A lot of players make the mistake of picking someone because they're top-tier, not because they enjoy them. I made the same mistake when I went with Falco--though in time I learned to love the bird--and had a bear of a time motivating myself to learn tech until I tried out Peach and Ness and found they were more my style.

You pick your main, not the tier-list. So if you play Fox and Falco and decide you don't like either there's nothing to worry about. Marth's a strong enough character to get you into high level play with relative ease.

Keep playing Marth. If you don't play a character you enjoy you probably won't enjoy playing, even if you win

I have seen people pickup characters after a year of playing smash and start to play very well. However, I put that observation on how well a person understands smash in general. If you already are familiar with various characters and how they play, then you are not relearning how to respect or understand your opponents actions. The only thing you are really changing is how you deal with those characters with this character change. In that vein, you can really change characters whenever and not see too many problems.

From personal experience Fox/Falco seem like much more capable characters in general compared to marth. They have many more options and a better reward for those options compared to marth. There is that movement factor with Marth I like so much XD

Have no fears with say your marth not cutting it. You can make the effort to make it workout since Marth is a more than capable enough character to play as.

You choose your character, not us
One can still provide opinions. Attempt to display and give all the facts to help the questioner make a well-informed decision.

Without empirical data the speculation remains speculation :D However, I would put a wager on the ability to short hop versus not short hop. Marth/Falco share the same short hop timing. Along with Fox/Sheik.

You shouldn't pick up a top tier character solely because they are top tier, you should play the character that feels the most natural and fluid to you. Whether that character is a spacie or Marth or even a completely different character is unknown to us, so just experiment and see which characters you like.
It depends upon your goals. If you simply want to try beating your friends you can easily become good enough with whatever character to do that and make it happen. If you want to try making top 8 at a national or regional I suspect you better rethink your character decision because at the top the tools you have limit your abilities. However, with the current few players they set a standard that implies Marth, Sheik, Puff, Fox, Falco, and Peach are all capable characters.

Another thing to consider is that a person comes to enjoy a particular character once they get a certain level of control down. Peach was not fun at all when I played until I reached a certain level of control. I bet PIkachu would be a ton of fun if I ever figured out what I am suppose to do with the character.

On a competitive point of view, think which MU's give you a harder time, then pick up a spacie that counters them.

If you have trouble with Puff, then use Fox.
If you have trouble with Fox then use Falco.

Picking up another character is fine, but at your level, I would not do it for the purposes of switching to "if marth doesn't cut it". You most likely have a long way to go in your learning and development, and switching characters can stunt your growth. Play the characters you find fun. If spacies are/look fun to you, try them out.

True. I used to main Marth and I gravitated towards Falco.
