Picking a main again...

So I am a returning melee player after a 2+ year hiatus due to simply not having the game anymore, and I have found that, despite my love of chain grabbing and wobbling, I can't stick to my old main (Ice Climbers) anymore. After playing Rosie a lot in SSB4WU I cant help but find it infuriating when Nana dies (often all to quickly/easily) and I have to wait until my next stock (or God forbid the next game) to get my full power back. I realize this problem is due in large part to my poor play but when I see the likes of Nintendude and Wobbles suffering the same issues at high level play I cant help but be discouraged knowing that this peeve would likely follow me no matter how much better I play. Because of this I have been seeking a new melee main to no avail and was looking for any input.

My current thought procces goes a little like this: I enjoy defensive play that forces the opponent to play my game, and approach me, I enjoy edge guarding opponents off stage, and I absoultuly love chain grabbing/inescapable extended combos. Fox/Falco are out because I really don't like spacies or their need to play actively aggressive most of the time. Marth is too laggy and has a poor recovery. Jigglypuff although fun to rest and edge guard spacies with, feels kinda lame/underwhelming when dying so early to just about anything. Falcon is just not my style as I prefer to play more defensively. Yoshi I like in theory as he feels like Smash 4 Yoshi (whom I love) but his lack of recovery options compared to smash 4 Yoshi kinda puts me off from the character (tho if I could play Yoshi like amsa, this thread wouldn't even be needed). Sheik/peach/pikachu I haven't felt out enough to have an opinion, tho I cant say I had any form of "love at first play" with any of those characters.

Any thoughts/ideas help, and guides/matchup guides for suggested characters are appreciated, who knows I may have missed some tech that makes a character fun :p
P.S. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

Sounds like Peach would be perfect for you, except for extended combo ability. She doesn't combo. She just hits opponents, sometimes consecutively

Thanks for the suggestion, haven't quite had enough time fully check her out yet but she is defiantly on the short list I think.

You pretty much described exactly Peach and then said you don't like the other top tiers. I think it's interesting that you have such a good understanding of how you like to play as I've had trouble differentiating bad habits in my play from my personal style.

Sheik has tech chases, follow ups or chaingrabs after downthrow. Needles and shino stalling help her defensive play as well.

"I enjoy defensive play that forces the opponent to play my game, and approach me, I enjoy edge guarding opponents off stage,"
Peach and Shiek

"and I absoultuly love chain grabbing/inescapable extended combos. "
HAHA SHIEK. I've spent many lives being grabbed, tech-chased/jab reset-ed into another grab because I am a brainless falcon.

"I really don't like spacies or their need to play actively aggressive most of the time. "
You can play a campy spacies which is sort of defensive. Falco's lasers shun approaches, create shield pressure and gives you ample opportunities to make a move as you wish. Don't sleep on spacies (never thought I'd say that).
But this is similar to above, Shiek and Peach.

"Marth is too laggy and has a poor recovery."
The recovery is predictable but his lag is more or less overlookable when you become comfortable with it. Bad recoveries is something that a lot of characters possess, take with a grain of salt.

"Jigglypuff although fun to rest and edge guard spacies with, feels kinda lame/underwhelming when dying so early to just about anything. Falcon is just not my style as I prefer to play more defensively."
Not gonna fight you on that, that stands pretty well to reason

"Sheik/peach/pikachu I haven't felt out enough to have an opinion, tho I cant say I had any form of "love at first play" with any of those characters."
Definitely work through (almost all of) them. Don't be afraid to give low tiers a try. You'll live a harder life but there is a whole different set of rewards for playing characters with such unique play styles. Don't sleep on anyone, don't go into with any predetermining ideas or conceptions about characters. Shiek and Peach are definitely a priority though. Pikachu requires a certain aggressive approach and a lot of character comfortability.

Thanks to all who responded, I did a bit more testing with sheik, peach, Pikachu, and young link and I think that as many of you predicted, ima try sheik and peach going forward as they kinda feel the most "right" outta the bunch so far. And to address specific responses.

@ Rachman Rachman Yeah I am fortunate enough to have my play style sorta fleshed out via other games, way better than investing time into other characters and switching half way.

@ krazyzyko krazyzyko yea the shino stalling looks hilarious though given how frequently I have seen sheiks mess it up and die, I am intimidated by it (haven't actually looked into it yet).

@ krazyzyko krazyzyko well haven't had fun with many other characters so hopefully sheik/peach can scratch that itch.

@ Eggggggggggbert Eggggggggggbert Thanks for the detailed response, I agree with the comment on Marth its probably just a personal erk, and still trying out some of the low tiers, still need to try doc (yes I know he isn't "low tier" but not top tier) and revisit Yoshi.
