Persona censorship...in my game?!

So I was playing on Mementos JAMMING out to Mass Destruction, and singing along when I realized one of the lyrics is "Your buddy covers for society...(Damn Right) Buddy's not here I'm gonna fight (All Night), and immediately I started wondering if a naughty word slipped into my copy of Smash, and I went to the sound test.

Well funny enough, they did actually censor it! The Smash version is edited so its "Your buddy covers for society...(All Night) Buddy's not here I'm gonna fight (All Night). Persona is poorly represented in Smash, 0/10 for the DLC.

In all seriousness though, I just think it's kinda funny because I have never ever seen the word "damn" get censored in anything before. I also think it's kinda a clever fix from Nintendo because you would never notice it unless actively listening for it, and it's an old song so of course they cant rerecord it. I'm just glad the song is in the game period because that would be a really dumb reason to exclude it.

Damn is sometimes censored when said as part of another curse that takes the name of the Lord in vain (like in some versions of "This Ain't a Scene" by FOB).

I've heard damn censored as a stand-alone word on the music video version of R. Kelly's I Wish too.

My guess is the use of the word would have compromised the E10 rating of the game.

I know what you're talking about, but I haven't heard the song in question myself, so I wouldn't know whether Kotaku should be forgiven for mishearing the lyrics or if they need to have their ears checked. Quite frankly, I'm in no rush to give them or their rabid hatedom the benefit of the doubt.
