Hi, recently, i've been trying to learn the technique called "Perfect Pivoting". But when I do it, the character moves in the direction, turns around, and when it looks like it worked he turns back around automatically. Is this how it's supposed to work?

Hey man, welcome to Smash Boards! I'm gonna tell you, it takes a lot of time to get these techniques down properly, and even more to apply them in actual combat. You have to be VERY fast when executing the movement, so keep that in mind. A lot of accuracy and precision is required. When you perfect pivot, you dash in one direction, and then turn around facing the direction that you dashed from. I don't know if that's what you mean, but that's how it works. For more information, I'd be happy to redirect you to some videos that have helped me out in the past: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ_ZzAvSFis and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vaR4RM-qr0

Good luck!

Well I rarely do perfect pivot with Shulk, but i can't combine it with an attack like a up-tilt or f-tilt, when I try to combine with a jab, I end up doing a dash attack, Any advices? :) Thanx

Some character have longer "Perfect Pivoting" than others, Some attack may slide (commonly F-tilt), some not and need to be excuted very quickly and very very fast.

Use to do some crazy mind games or even predicting rolls for great punish.

Go training, use omega stage (practically any) and do "Perfect Pivoting" a lot until master it.

Then practice with U-tilt, D-tilt and F-tilt. Discover what slide or not or even better, what is the best option.
Is you do a Running Attack instead of a Tilt (This happens a me a lot even grabbing) try again and again. Until you do it.

Or watch the video that already somebody posted. Now keep smashing.

This will happen if you hold the left stick in the opposite direction too long (in effect, you dash danced into a dash attack.) You'll want to practice making sure the left stick returns to neutral before starting to input your jab. Most masters recommend practicing in Training with 1/2 time to get the animation timing down and then slowly speeding it up until you can do it consistently at full speed.

Make sure you also check the 'window' that a perfect pivot or dash dance can be performed with your character. Since the window of opportunity is half of their initial dash animation, characters with a very fast and small animation will have a harder time making it work (which also means that it may not be something you'll need to worry about with that character). The second video link from @Rawkstar at about 2:35 has the measured animation distance of each character posted due to smash's unit of measurement (they use the squares in Sonic's omega stage as their ruler) to show how some characters are much more easily able to pull it off than others. Higher numbers means easier visual cues getting it down, and more distance covered when performed.

@ X XenoBlur Unfortunately, that just takes practice. Lots and lots of practice. He's the first I've seen that recommends changing the control scheme and forcing a empty buffer before hand though. Changing the control scheme of my character to match wouldn't help me out much, so I'm not sure I'll be able to practice that part and keep the muscle memory practical. But he is right about how some characters can have a more 'lazy' input of the turnaround animation, which is due to their half-way animation point for their dash being farther away.

@ GhostUrsa GhostUrsa Yeah, It would take a lot of practice to do that, I use pro controller to play Sm4sh and I don't want to change my control scheme, I better practice more the perfect pivot without this

This is an old thread, but i finally almost can do it consistently! :D
I found the trick to do fast but still gentle flicks. I used to get really involved with flicking the stick but now i can just casually do it :3

Glad that ya can do it consistently now.
I also have the problem with the character turning back around after the perfect pivot. I think this is because I smack the stick so hard that it rebounds and flicks the opposite direction on its own.
Anyway I guess this thread isn't necessary anymore so I'm locking it.
