We all know that there's the possibility of having patches for balancing purposes.

Now my question is how you would like the time frame of these patches to be distributed? For me, I think they should patch the game every 3-4 months (barring a game breaking bug) to allow insight from tournaments while the metagame develops. I expect another situation similar to Brawl where Ike was considered really powerful until people got the idea of how to avoid his smash attacks.

I don't think they're going to really patch anything unless it's something like yoshi's weird glitches.

I think the patching will go the PS All-Stars route. If I'm not mistaken, a huge patch for the game was made available around the time of the Smash Direct. It balanced, improved, and fixed many aspects of the game using feedback from the community and long-term testing.

Feedback will probably be taken from Miiverse, and some developers might keep working on the game's balance after launch. When deemed ready, the "perfect" patch will be released.

If this ends up being true, I do wonder what effect such a patch would have on the metagame development. If I recall correctly, Sackboy went from being alright to being the worst character in the game after numerous balance patches.

Yeah I hope this won't be the case, that's why I'm skeptical whenever patching is done through general feedback. That's why I prefer getting insight from tournament players 3 months post-release.

in games like injustice, they kept patching the game which made characters less of who they were and be able to preform less combos

2-4 months sounds good to me. That's about how often Dota's is. Longer than in a bad meta and people get antsy (like this past meta). Too often and you end up with TOO-dynamic of a metagame that can turn off pros.

Even if we don't get sweeping balance changes, I hope Nintendo fixes glitches and abnormal cases that DO affect matchups (I'm glaring at you, ZSS, with your infinite).

Lol... They're not going to patch it according to what tourney players request.

Also, patches are good. They can patch as often as they want, especially if it fixes bugs or adds any free content. On Wii U they download automatically anyway, only 3DS requires you to go to the eShop.

If they take feedback from miiverse prepare for the most unbalanced game to exist.

If they can patch the game, I'm sure they will.
They have done it with a ton of other games so far, so there's no reason to assume they wont change anything cause its Smash Bros.
I'm sure the patches will just be bug fixes and maybe some Wii U compatibility updates on the 3DS when it comes out.
