Man, i just got finished watching Style Wars (an 80s movie/documentary about graffiti) and All City (same thing but about hip hop in general) and felt so inspired. I watched Kings and Toys and felt the same way. Then i watched State Your Name (a graffiti documentary, only more recent) and was ashamed. It made writers everywhere look like criminals; everyone had masks and hoodies. They talked about beatin people up and bein hood. There was no soul in any of their pieces, nor did they seem to have appreciation for the culture. They wrote to rep their city, rather than to express themselves. I remember a few days ago I was doin a throwie and some kid came up to me and the first thing he asked me was "What you rep?". Is this seriously how low the hip hop community has sank? Where everything is involved around being as hood as you can possibly be? We've already seen the decline in music. Is it becoming the same with graffiti? What about breakin?
