Pac-Man, Sonic, and Megaman already Unlocked?

I'm not to sure if anyone noticed this already, but in the 3rd pic of the day yesterday I noticed that Pac-Man, Sonic, and Megaman are in the picture for the ALL STAR mode button. Could this mean that those 3 are already default characters when the game is released so you don't have to unlock them? Idk... just thought it was interesting.

Everybody that is on the website, sans Lucina, is part of the starting roster.

I agree with that. My favorite part of the Smash series is unlocking every character and stage. That's why I was hoping this game you would start off with maybe like 20 characters and unlock the rest.

Cause even though most of the characters are on the site (38 I believe), I hope you still have to unlock most of them and not have them already.

Judging by the demo it looks like Pac-Maze will have to be unlocked, so there's at least that...

I always thought Sonic had a chance to be a starter this time around, since he's a veteran fighter. Mega Man and Pac-Man as starters...didn't see that coming at all. I'm not opposed to that, though. Guest Fighters are a selling point for a fighting game that features them. If someone is buying Smash because of Mega Man(which is true for many gamers) than it's nice to be able to play as him right away.

It sucked to be a Sonic or MGS fan that bought Brawl because of Sonic or Snake. So, I get it if they changed their mind about Guest Fighters.

Yes, and I’m more bugged than I should about it. Plus we’ll have just 12 unlockable characters if going by the ESRB leak (8 being veterans, 2 being newcomer clones). Seriously, the picks for secret characters are horrible this time around, unless there are ‘unleaked’ characters (which I doubt). They could as well have given us the whole roster since the beginning, it wouldn’t feel that disheartening.

This. What if you get the game brand new, want to play with your friends, and then you find out. "Oh, you have to play through 30 hours of story mode before you get sonic" -_- Hated that. Same with 20 Hours for Mewtwo in Melee btw. What the heck, game devlopers!

I don't mind unlockables by principle, I just don't like a character being officially revealed and STILL being unlockable. And I especially don't like making third party characters unlockable, since they basically sell the game for some people.

It's not hard to unlock them, iirc Snake requires like 10 battles in the Shadow Moses Island, I don't recall Sonic's methods but I do remember he has 4 of them and is the only character with that amount of unlock methods.

The easiest one if I remember was beat Classic with 10 characters.

Yeah I'd be fine with Sonic being a starter due to his veteran status. But I really wanted the excitement of fighting PacMan and Megaman to unlock them.

Yep, I just checked and Sonic's actually a pain in the ass to unlock in Brawl lol, other methods are: Playing over 10 hours in Brawls, play over 300 VS. matches, and of course, the SSE method whoch is pretty annoying too. So yeah, would be ok with Sonic as a starter lol.

Strange that they aren't unlockables.
But there's no doubt, at this point, that they are starters.
