P:M-based PSAs?

Although the Project Melee team did an excellent job balancing the game's characters and generally improving its mechanics, they couldn't make every character appeal to everyone (nor should they have aimed to). Naturally, there are many substitutions available, and people replace characters. This is a general understanding as far as I know.

However, a character intended for vBrawl will have difficulty working well (as in having an effective moveset) in P:M. Some people have taken to making PSAs for this mod specifically (like Nguz's changes of the Project Mewtwo PSA found in this forum).

My question is: is there a known list of these projects? If not, I'm open to making a list of them so long as people post links to the material.

EDIT: Although I doubt this list is going to get longer, here are the PSAs that we know of.

"True" Link 2.6: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=33428

"True" Meta Knight 2.6: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=33392

"True" Ike: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=33305

"True" Toon Link: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=33455

Nguz's Project M Mewtwo over Lucario (link to post, because it's a work in progress. Simple instructions and download in first comment): http://smashboards.com/threads/project-m-mewtwo-a-balancing-project.337040/

That's a shame, since I'm pretty content with P:M's work on the characters already, even if these new ones were more canonical.

I posted this because Mewtwo was the only project I saw, too. Hopefully the concept catches on more as P:M gets closer to a full cast...

I wonder if there's a general formula for changing a character's attributes for P:M, even if their moves and strength stay the same. Knowing that would make translating movesets a lot easier.

EDIT: Got home and posted your findings.

Any videos for these? I love watching this stuff (even if I don't end up downloading them).

As good intentioned as these projects and this post is, I don't understand the appeal in the least. The goals of the PMBR in making PM were to A: Give brawl melee physics and B: Balance the game to a point where every character could stand their ground, something not even melee did.

On brawlvault, I'm yet to see a single PSA that isn't either completely imbalanced, or has garbage looking animations. This isn't to put the artists down, but without a full team of experienced modders working their butts off (see PMBR) it is near impossible to make a "good" PSA.

If you get PM I assume you do so because you are looking for a more competative/balanced smash experience. Adding community PSA's to it defeats that purpose.

I don't mean to make this a case of "you shouldn't like what I don't like", I just don't understand the draw here.

I agree that most PSAs out there are terrible, which saddens me, because it has a great deal of potential in this context if done right.

Please look into the new Mewtwo project. It is only one person doing the work right now as far as I know (Nguz95), but he is trying very hard to achieve balance with the rest of the cast, with a character not originally in Brawl. It's daunting, but it is possible and is being achieved IMO.

My goal for this post was to find projects that were well done and balanced for P:M. Unfortunately, there really aren't any, but it was worth trying to find them.

I've seen the Mewtwo project, and I can hardly believe it is a one man project. It definitely stands above most PSA's out there. Yet still, it suffers from choppy animations, and without the input of high level competitive melee players and a large tester base, there is very little hope for it being balanced in line with the rest of the PM cast. I hope I'm wrong with this project because on the off chance of the clone engine being released, I'd love to see a viable Mewtwo in the game. But for now, I don't have much faith in PSAs

PSAs are mostly for anyone who doesn't play on a very competitive level/can't play against people much and just want an alternative to spice up the game occasionally with new content, or to add in a character from Melee they like IMO. Yeah, you're never going to get PM level quality, but they can still be fun, and if you don't like the character and you don't ever play with someone who does, then it makes sense to just replace them for your own enjoyment.

I also doubt it will ever reach that sort of level, however awesome it would be. It can still be enough for many, though, myself included.

A little part of me gets lost every time I remember I can't have a clone engine...

Basically this. I could live without ever seeing Wario, ROB, or Jigglypuff ever again. Having alternatives is just more fun.

Okay, I just tried out the "true" PSAs, and they're not too bad. A couple of moves and animations would actually be worthwhile on their respective characters (ie. Meta Knight looks upward during his first two jumps). Toon Link is almost perfect in an M environment except for a Sonic levels of speed dash attack that cancels into all jumps, smashes, and tilts. If I knew anything about Brawlbox, I'd take to moving some of those animations over to my actual Project M data.

Yeah, I don't know either. I would think you would have to tinker with the Fitchar.pac, too.
