P:M and Melee on Plasma TV

I have a Wii hooked up with component cables (that have green and blue) to a 50 inch Samsung Plasma TV. I play both melee and P:M on this. I've noticed that I'm missing L-cancels/techs/etc far more often in Melee than in P:M and can't consistantly do things like Fox's SH double laser in melee. I don't have an older TV handy atm to test this.

So to cut to the chase, does Melee have a decent amount of video latency on plasmas or am I just crazy. Because the window of time to L-cancel/tech/etc in P:M mirrors melee, correct?

If Melee does have a lot of latency I'll grab a TV from goodwill just for it since I just got back into Melee and P:M and I'm not going to practice on a TV that will make me worse :p. Oh, and also enable progressive scan on Melee when it asks if thats what I should be doing...

And sorry. I suppose this is really kind of a Melee question overall...

Afaik, there is slight lag from converting an analogue (component) signal to digital for lcd and plasma. Though this wouldn't create a difference between the games on the same TV...

Perhaps it's because pm is 16:9 and melee isn't (assuming you're not changing the aspect ratio)? The squishy melee visual may be throwing your timing ever so slightly off.

You're probably right... Melee does look stretched now that I look at it.

Edit : changed it to 4:3 on Melee and it's much better, thank you.
But yeah, should go get a cheap TV anyway.

Yeah, the TVs with big butts (lol) are generally easier to play with.

Considering HDTVs typically have lag going from 16-32ms, and that a single frame lasts roughly 16.67ms you can expect a frame or two of lag. There are TVs whose input lag is lower than one frame though, and others where the input lag can reach 5 frames or more.

I have a plasma tv and I notice literally no difference when transitioning to a CRT.
