I think this will be good and bad in some aspects. I myself have a few unusual hats and some pricey killstreak weapons so that means the market becomes slower and my items are worth less. I welcome another game that's like Team Fortress 2 and I can't wait to possibly play the beta. Hopefully this game by Blizzard will encuorage faster production of team fortress 3. What are your thoughs on the trailer shown at Blizzcon?

Changed the thread title to make this more of a general Overwatch thread.

The IP itself looks like a great change of pace, little annoyed it seems to be jumping on the F2P FPS bandwagon with the standard Capture the point/Payload.

It looks like it could be fun, just it's a shame for a great game universe to be assigned to a by the numbers game.

What would you prefer it to be, as opposed to the whole capture/payload thing? Aside from deathmatch, I can't think of anything else that'd work all that well in a team-based FPS.

You could come up wtih several ways to win in a team FPS

Counter strike- You have hostage rescue, bomb defusal.

Team fortress 2-Payload, point capture, king of the hill, capture the flag/intel.

Call of Duty- Kills collected, team deathmatch and something else I'm not too fimiliar with the IP.

Natural selection 2- resources gathered

There are plenty of different ways to make an objective.

I'm really mixed on this game. It looks nice visually and some classes have neat ideas (The Cockney Time Chick's rewind thing), but most of it just seems to be ripping off Team Fortress 2 or other games. I mean, Bastion (the robot turret guy) is basically just a Droideka from Star Wars: Battlefront.

Also, that robot ninja dude in the artwork looks like Raiden with a mask. Has anyone else noticed?

Meanwhile, the Blizzard faithful silently wait for Warcraft IV.

And then silently accept that it will never happen.

To be honest I haven't been particularly interested in what Blizzard's been up to lately. Honestly, none of their recent titles have really been my cup of tea. 'Cept Diablo III and Starcraft II, I always have time for some Diablo and Starcraft.

I feel the complete opposite. Diablo 3 didn't grip me as much as Diablo 2 did. My friends and I had a lot of fun playing starcraft 2 but World of warcraft is just really outdated. I think the same can be said for Team fortress 2. I play team fortress 2 and then smash brothers 3ds as my most played games to date. Sure they take elements from Team fortress 2. It's one of the most successful F2P games right behind League of Legends.

I responded to this news (and the preview video) with a big "meh". I don't want an FPS, I want something massive in scope that nobody's done before. Maybe Blizzard just set my expectations too high by doing that for years.

Heck, they already had something awesome with Starcraft: Ghosts multiplayer of capturing the Commander Centre. (Think King of the Hill where when you hold the hill the hill moves toward your base while the enemy team boards the airborne hill to infiltrate and capture it to send it flying towards their base)

I'm positive about the game in term of sales, but I'm not sure if it will be that liked. It looks a lot like Team Fortress 2 for me. Heck, there's even a Gnome who builds sentries with 200 scrap. Yeah, just like the Engineer from TF2. Don't forget the art style, wich looks a lot like, again, TF2 and you have the Valve fans who just laugh at this game.

And look, you can even switch some things between the two games like this :

I'm positive about the game, but not so much about the universe itself. But wait and see like everyone says.

Like I said before and I'll say it again. Copying and making it better is sometimes the best form of flattery. Imagine if no one ever copied street fighter or any SNK there would be no fighting games. What if we were on street fighter 11 now instead of any killer instinct, mortal kombat, injustice, marvel vs *, blazeblue, skullgirls, tekken, virtual fighter, dead or alive I could go on and on. All these games take elements what came before and attempt to make it better. We won't know until the game is out. Smash brother took elements from power stone made by Sega. Does that make smash brothers a fraud? Just because someone has a good idea doesn't mean it can't be used in a different itteration.

Like what, exactly? Aside from Smash Bros 64 coming out before Power Stone, I can't see any similarities other than using items. Power Stone is a 3D environment that has health bars and power meters.

Plus there's the fact that Power Stone is a Capcom game, not a SEGA game.
@ finalark finalark I know my head was in the right area I was just thinking dreamcast when I typed that relax caps guy. What exactly did you have to add to the point of me saying that all companies copy each other

@ Mic_128 Mic_128 Before it smash 64 was smash 64 it was called dragon king: the fighting game. It was in prototype form after powerstone was already in development. Sakurai later had the idea of adding nintendo characters to create a better atmosphere and sound files for final smashes can be found on the smash 64 carts much like the powerstone collecting resembling final smashes. Smash 64 did come out shortly before powerstone did but the internet was alive and well by then. It's very easilly possible that two similar games that didn't even add nintendo characters to the game way after powerstone was already in development shared ideas from each other, wether or not which game is more popular.

Give it a chance. I know a lot of people either love or hate Blizzard and I myself have already made the joke of "It will cost you 15 dollars a month to play" but if it's TF2 but better then why the hell not wouldn't you play it? There will be countless games you and I will play throughout our lifetime where developers will take ideas from each other and attempt to make them better. And as far as defending the dwarven engineer I mean c'mon the dwarves were always related to engineering in their lore and gameplay.

Looking forward for this game. It has some neat characters/classes. Though I will likely have to upgrade my GPU if I want it to run smoothly.

I like TF2, but the short amount of classes (and the lack of female ones) is a bummer.

That's really my only problem with TF2 (and the fact that I'm godawful at it, but hey), I really need me some more variety in my classes, even if it's just noticeable/non-hat cosmetic stuff. Also I feel like a lot of the classes in Overwatch have some really neat mechanics. The game as a whole also feels like a MOBA to me, and I love MOBAs.

True, it does seem to be a mixture of TF2 with elements of MOBA. I like the MOBA genre as well, although the community of Dota 2 put me off of playing it (and the other MOBAs aren't nearly as interesting to me, including League of Legends*). Anyways, Overwatch does seem to have some neat/unique mechanics for its characters. I am personally interested in Tracer's "Blink" gimmick and Zenyatta as a whole.

*I do have a soft spot for Annie. I wish she was in Dota 2 lol

I was actually going to use Tracer as my 'neat mechanic' example, but I completely forgot. Also interested in Bastion's mode swap gimmick.

If it bothers you, you could always mod your files. For a while I had my Scout and Medic as girls before realizing I preferred the original looks.

Zenyatta was the monk robot guy, right? I thought he looked pretty rad.

That is nice, but I want actual female classes, not modded ones.

Nothing against the Team Fortress 2 classes (I really enjoy Demoman, Medic and Pyro), but they could use some gender variety.

I think I'll drop out of this part of the conversation, since I don't know if you'd want to hear what I have to say about this topic. No offense towards your opinion, of course!

Yup, he was the robomonk with the sphere mechanic.
Oh, cool then. I really think he looks neat, they copied a bit from other games but so far that idea looks original and fun.
By the way, if you liked Bastion, look into the Star Wars: Battlefront games. He plays a lot similar to Droideka, and Droideka was mad fun in both.

I've heard so many good things about Battlefront, but I've never had the chance to play it. I'll look into it!

The only thing I wish for is if they can maybe try something different instead of having it be a F2P FPS.
