Other examples of obsolete tech still serving a modern purpose?

So I mainly play Melee and it's commonly known that you have CRTs at tournaments and it's preferable to practice on one since there is pretty much no lag at all in comparison to most HDTVs.

Now also, I work with contractors from the Air Force to help design and program the HUDs and Controls on fighter jets and they still use small CRTs in the cockpit since they are much near lag-less and super bright to contrast the strong sunlight that can wash out modern displays. Both these points are vital when you are moving at Mach speeds while tracking enemy movement/artillery. We actually pay absurd amounts for the production of these specialized 0 lag 3-4inch CRTs that no-one else really makes anymore. They are trying to transition to in-helmet displays and holography, but there are problems with both the lag and the brightness as you can imagine.

So this all brought a question: What other examples of old tech (thought to be obsolete) still has an "edge" or advantageous usage in modern times?

I can think of a few but they mostly seem aesthetic or personal preference instead of practical or necessary.

Not really a debate topic, moved to PR.

Ot: some MRI scanners are largely unchanged from their original iterations. Typewriters, dial up Internet, PDAs, all still un use. Heck even floppy disks are still in use.

I don't expect the Pool Room to really be a good place for this to be judging by the type of threads that are being discussed here. I put some thought into where this thread should go before I posted it.

I think Google is prolly the best answer to your question tbh. But I tell you what, you can make a DH thread related to this but first think of an argument to be had. Like i dunno how about "using CRT monitors is preferred over LED because reasons." or something. Just asking ppl to list stuff they prolly had to Google just isn't gonna work,no offense....

Besides the PR is great for general questions like this. Or it used to be...

nothing to debate, dude. you don't need a subforum to be labelled "intelligent" to get intelligent responses

anyway, vinyl records still exist. ps/2 ports on your computer are beneficial sometimes. pagers are used in hospitals, i think

Funny I still see vinyl, in fry's in the Cd's category I thought they didn't sell them anymore.Knowing everything is pretty much digital. Which I ask my self why gamestop sells used digital games I mean it's not solid you can't touch it why call it used to begin with.

i have vinyl records and yes, pagers are still alive and well in hospitals.

vinyl records have this aurora about them, the sound sounds warmer compared to sharper digital sound, and searching through boxes of vinyl at a record store and finding a great track is magical.
