Smash Journeyman
Hey all, I just got my Diamond VC500 from Amazon last night and I had some time to play with it a little. I didn't see any threads that fit the niche of helping out new owners get to familiarize themselves with their new toys, which is why I made this one.
Everything seemed simple enough when I got it, plug in the RCA plugs, hit the button, everything's dandy. But then I would end up with a huge (800mb+) file for a two minute video. So herein lies the dilemma.
What are the settings people have found best to preserve quality and at the same time not take up too much space? Is it best to save as a .avi file while recording? A .wmv? No difference?
Using the XVID codec (http://www.xvid.org/) along with Virtualdub (http://www.virtualdub.org/) - both open source - I've managed to reduce the 800megs to ~50megs with little noticeable differences in quality. But then to be fair, the quality kinda sucked to begin with.

^ is what I'm referring to above.
I'm really bad at organizing my thoughts, so to clairfy:
This thread is to introduce people to using Virtualdub to reduce the size of the videos
-or- more importantly
For more knowledgeable members to share their techniques for optimizing videos.
(Techniques geared specifically for any particular device, be it a VC500, gamebridge, , etc. all welcome)
Thanks for your time.
