Optimal finger movement in melee

Recently I have been relearning my wavedash and short hop, because I realized that I had some bad finger habits. I was sliding my thumb to the right off of the x button for my short hop, and for my wavedash. This puts my hand in an awkward position and makes me put a lot of downward pressure on the right trigger. So instead I am practicing pressing the x button in a much lighter, linear way. Waveshining and shffling are much less strenuous on my hand this way.

Anyone else have to fix this problem? Other than that my left thumb is very relaxed and I have a light, precise grip on the grey stick. I am seeing some improvement right now in my right hand dexterity, but shorthopping is harder now that I am not "cheating" with my slide-off method.

Here is a gfycat of what I'm talking about. https://gfycat.com/MildIllustriousIndianskimmer

Thoughts?

I try to just press the buttons lightly and I've never really and hand problems, even though I claw and a lot of people say that's bad for your hands. The only time I've noticed hand problems I've noticed I hold my controller with a death grip and sit with bad posture, so keeping a relaxed position should be he number one priority and it seems like you're doing a good job with that

posture is really important. My execution is way better when I sit up really straight!

Have you tried using Y for your jumps and L for your wave dashes?
I use x mainly because I find it much more comfortable going from x to b than y to b. I am able to wavedash with either trigger, but I don't think there's much of a difference. The most important thing for me was getting a comfortable position for my right thumb.
