Online Super Smash Brothers 64 Set-Up Guide?

I've looked around and searched but am still lost.

Does one exist? What are the steps necessary to play someone online? To find a tournament? I downloaded MAME32k and Project64k but don't know what to do from there.

Can I get a virus or other malware through getting roms and these programs and allowing programs to act as servers etc. or if someone wanted to send malware while they were acting as a server or something?
