Okay, just curious if anyone has seen something like this and know what it is about...

I was playing Wii U, one player, team battle, for fun, with anyone.

One player was pretty good. I kind of felt like he was a rival. There was also one kind of sucky player. A match came where it was him and the sucky player vs me and a new player who showed up that was good. He got his butt kicked by us. the new player then left. The next match was open with me, the sucky player, and him.

Suddenly a very good likeness (mii) of him with the same name (not a common name at all) took the empty slot. I knew something was up. So I left. but it seemed like this person had a friend, or a second player somehow join a random match. How is this possible in the "with anyone" mode? Was it a hack, or cheating of some sort, or just dumb luck that his friend, or his other mii was able to join the same match?

That can't be possible. Mii's aren't allowed in online unless it's against friends. Must be a hack, or a glitch in the system.

I think he means the mii portrait next to his name.

And no, I think you're being paranoid. I would have at least played it out

Mii portrait? Most likely a glitch then. The paranoid thing, let's just say I played one game too much of tf2.

I wasn't saying you were paranoid. sorry. The OP. As far as the portrait thing, you never noticed the mii portrait next you your opponent's name on the character select/loading screen?

Have you ever played any other game with online matchmaking? For example...I used to play Halo Reach online all the time. I might leave the group I just played, return to matchmaking, and immediately get set up with the people I had just played.

Could be a similar scenario, your lobby may have been the only one/first connection with a slot available so he got reconnected with you. Not exactly a very common occurrence, but still plausible.

being paired up with someone inside your house isn't uncommon

Actually I'm talking about two miis. Same names, similar but slightly different portraits. And the name was not common so I'm sure it had to be a hack, or as some other poster said, a person in the same household as him, that got thrown in the same room (which I did not know was possible or common), despite it being a one player team battle.

Lay off the meth...? Why would your paranoia of him hacking his friend into a team match cause you to not even play the match? You could have had so much more data to include in your obscure post if you had at least stayed to see if they picked the same character or something. Also.. so you know.. You can play 2 players to a system in With Anyone. You can play 2 players in For Glory or For Fun as long as it's a team match.

Okay, since you are clearly a bit slow to understand why I would leave the match let me explain it to you. So you've been kicking someone's a$$, so they might be a bit pissed at you, so they call their buddy into the game. Now what do you think is gonna happen? If they get on the same team they will try of course, but probably focus on you, and then if one of them ends up on your team, they will likely just throw the match. So what is the point of continuing to play with them if they probably aren't going to play properly? Besides I would much rather leave, and have him be pissed off and unable to get his revenge. I played a lot of brawl online and put up with a lot of ****, and now that the system is much better I'm not going to put up with it anymore.

And in regards to your two player comment. Yeah dude, I know. It's called selecting two players and playing a team battle with your buddy on the same console, under the exact same network ID, playing against two other people on one console with the exact same network ID. I was playing a one player online team battle.

He's not "slow", your reasoning makes no sense. People don't care about getting "revenge" nearly as much as you think.

Also, the fact that you call this "cheating" is hilarious.

Explain how it makes no sense. And please get me some statistics on people being pissed off in smash online, and acting out or not acting out in gameplay because of it, because I'm thinking your statement is just as subjective as mine.

And it is cheating if the person hacked the game to do what they did. If they did not and had two wii u systems in the same house and got lucky to join the same match then fine, but the intent is still the same, sabotage game play at someone expense...

Doubt it was any more than chance/coincidence. Even so, I would've gone through with the match and saw how things played out. It's just For Fun anyway. Should've at least gotten a screenshot, bruh.

Well even if it's the same account name, it would have to be the same mii portrait, right? OP says the mii's were different, so I'm sure it's nothing more than the OP being paranoid.

Should have played it out instead of accusing someone of cheating without evidence. B**** move.

The portraits looked very similar though, and these were not slightly different stock miis. They were cleary and distinctly representing the same person, but with subtle tweaks to their features, there was no coincidence or mistake in this. Also the name was not a regular common person's name.

And I did not name any names, so I don't see how anyone has been accused of anything. In any case, I was just curious if other people had come across this kind of thing yet, i was not to try and get some sort of justice handed down. I don't care about that, I just wanted to know if this is something people were doing, or could do easily.

We can stop this discussion though, since my question was pretty much answered with Xermo's post. Two consoles and two games inside the same house tend to pair up together online, makes enough sense for me, just did not know it was common or easy to do.
