I. Mario, The Character
Summary
The main mascot for Nintendo. Mario is depicted as a short, pudgy, Italian plumber who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom, where he is regarded as a hero; he is best known for constantly thwarting the plans of the evil King Bowser to kidnap Princess Peach and subjugate the Mushroom Kingdom. He is well known for his plucky personality, enthusiasm and spirit in the face of enemies, unexpected physical agility, cooperation with his brother, Luigi, and his close relationship with Princess Peach whom he has repeatedly saved. -Wikipedia

Pros and Cons of Mario

Pros
A decent combo ability
A very good recovery with many options
Good projectile
Has a spike
Great edgeguard potential
Good throws

Cons
Not many approach options
Harder to combo compared to other characters
Not many combo options
Spike is slightly hard to hit

Mario Playstyles

Combo Mario - This type mostly goes for the Dair > Uair combo which can be a zero - death ending with an Up Smash.

Aggressive Mario - Mario has great grabs and has great edge guard potential. Why not abuse it? This playstyle is one that will easily kill you at low %'s.

AAA Combo
1st hit: 2%
2nd hit: 2%
3rd hit: 4%

Tilts
Up Tilt: 10%
Forward Tilt: 13%
Down Tilt: 12%

Smashes
Up Smash: 19%
Forward Smash: 17%
Down Smash : 17%

Aerials
Nair: 14%
Uair: 12%
Fair: 16%
Bair: 16%
Dair: 3% for each hit. (8 hits are possible in one dair)

B moves
Neutral B: 7%
Up B: 5% on start of attack, 1$ on in the middle of the attack, 3% at the end of the attack
Down B: 1% (14 hits are possible in one Down B)

Throws
Back Throw: 16%
Forward Throw: 12%

III. Matchups

Ness: A very good matchup on Mario's side. Ness has the perfect weight for some uair combos at an earlier %. Once Ness is around 50% or so, you can get him off the stage and block his PK thunder with fireballs. You could also just keep edgeguarding with your great downsmash and/or aerials.

IV. Mario specific combos, techniques, and tactics

Double Aerials: Mario is able to do 2 aerials in a single shorthop if the aerials starts with dair, uair or fair. It can then be ended with a uair or nair.

Tornado Spike: Using Mario's Down B (The Tornado) can be used as a spike if the opponent is trapped within mario's boots at the end of the Tornado.

It was more complete too...

Also Mario's grabs suck balls. Low range, slow ground speed, has to combo into it. He just sets up into it better than most. His main combo prob is low percents, really. He can, but it can be seen from a while away.

Hmm, my bad. I didn't know you were making one and I didn't see your post in the previous thread until now.

You can go ahead and do yours instead This one can be locked. Mine probably wouldn't have been updated as frequently anyway.

i wish someone good would have made this guide... i couldve crapped this out in less than 2 seconds.

this would be like cmoney making a falcon guide

Mario can Fast Fall UAIR from almost any platform or ledge in the game. I think you can even get it off on the LEFT edge of hyrule, from the long platform to the green slope.

Mario can do a Fair Uair in a single short hop. (also Bair Uair, Dair Uair, Dair Nair, Fair Nair, Bair Nair, Uair Uair, others that I forgot).

Mario's grabs are great they can really mess people up. Mario can also grab by jabbing first for a JAB GRAB.

You can juggle your opponent to places you want him to be with WEAK Uairs.

Mario's UP B can save him from certain DOOM. Use it like PIKA's UP B to get out of sticky situations.
