Will we see a definitive final version? Or continued updates?

I'd imagine they'd leave it open for future updates. I just don't see them saying ''Okay, it's done enough, we'll never work on it again''.

With projects like these, it's not uncommon for the torch to get passed along. Maybe after 3.0, a bunch of the PMBR vets who always dreamed of rounding out the full Brawl cast will finally be satisfied, and they'll be done working on the mod - but there may be other people who're still hungry to do more, so they'll add new recruits to the project and start working on a 3.5 update, or a 4.0 update, or just a bunch more alt costumes and fun stuff like that. The team will grow, they'll kick ideas around, Dantarion will come up with something brilliant, and

That's the best part about modding communities. Once something like this reaches critical mass, it basically never goes away until people have no more interest in it. There are still mods from Morrowinds that have teams of people passionately working on them, and that game's well over a decade old at this point.

It's up again. They didn't update the character section though...

i'm kinda hoping that since this release will have all the character that they can finally start balancing and creating new items to play with. so maybe 4.0 will have all the "casual" elements tackled?

Hopefully it's not Nintendo who's doing the site attacks... Anyway, a final version would always have bug issues to answer for. So, no to answer OP.

I'd rather like a updates to stop after it goes gold.
A healthy metagame requires the developer to simply leave it alone after a while. If one were to constantly switch dynamics the metagame will never enter a form people are able to feel comfy in and disinterest will come from the constantly shifting meta. Project M will need to let go of its baby when its time for it to leave the nest. All it can do until it's finalized is try to make it as solid as possible, once its off demos however, it needs to be done from a developer standpoint. Let the players discover things, and learn tricks, let the metagame develop. If some characters end up weak, it's gotta be.
So yeah, let it breathe when it's all said and done. Note this isn't going to be for a while.
