you can trust reputable magazines or interveiws with sakurai, ign or nintendo power are good for finding such articles. and interveiws outside of those are tough to find

Unless Hudson made some kind of announcement saying this is true, then it's false. It doesn't say anything of the kind on wikipedia's Brawl page, probably because users are blocked from editing it.

Hudson is a subsidiary of Konami. Konami already has a PC in (Snake). It's reasonable that Konami/Hudson would allow some others of their own characters to be ATs, since they already got a PC.
