i think when he says "by user" he means that the video list is categorized by the olimar user's name, not the characters that the olimar is against.

Oh the only reason that I kinda leaned toward this was that if someone was having trouble with a match they could look at the vids of the characters.

I am considering posting links, with people's permission, to their youtube channel or website, whatever it maybe if they want to constantly update their vids. Or just have a special section for each person.

The only problem with this is it will become really crowded, fast, I would think.

And I wouldn't want this to become a critique thread.

Oh, I just made the colors of what color character someone picks. Since different players pick different colors usually it'll separate those that you are looking at so you're not just looking at a big blob of white...

By the way, I think it's kind of superfluous to include the word "Olimar" in front of the player name when you are linking directly to someone's YouTube page. I mean, this is an Olimar forum, after all. It should be expected that only Olimar videos are posted here. Wouldn't it just be easier to make the name of the player as the link?

Suggestions For Organizing The Video Archive

Hi everyone. Rapid Assassin and I have been discussing with each other about a way to organize the video archive (thank you SO much for volunteering to manage this thread, Dr. Hyde!). Please take this as a friendly suggestion.

PROBLEM:

First, we noticed that the video archive is getting cluttered. It's not bad right now, but it's obvious that the system we are using right now will not work in the future, as there will be just too many videos, and it will be a mess.

Second, we noticed that the quality of the videos in the character-specific sections are not consistent. Some of the videos are very good battles, and some of them are just horrible battles that do not deserve to be posted as an individual link in the video archive (I don't mean to insult anyone, specifically).

SOLUTION:

1) Wipe the entire video archive. We will start from scratch. Every character-specific section will be totally blank.

2) Define a criteria, or set of rules, to have videos posted in the sections. It should be a privilege to have your video featured in a character-specific section. It's attention. Attention is good. It should not be an easy task to have your videos directly linked in a character-specific section. Therefore, we shall have this criteria: ONLY matches from semi-final or final rounds in major tournaments can be directly linked in a character-specific section. For example, no matter how good your Olimar vs Pit fight is, it cannot be posted in the Pit section if the match wasn't from a major tournament, and if it wasn't either a semi-final or final match in that tournament. We understand that these rules are strict, but they are effective in filtering out bad videos from good ones. When new people come to this video archive, we want them to see good players using Olimar to his fullest potential against different characters. We don't want new people to come here and see an Olimar beat up his 7-year old sister who is using Jigglypuff. So, links shall ONLY be posted for character-specific sections if the video fulfills the criteria.

3) Set up a section for user-specific YouTube channel links. I see that Dr. Hyde has already begun to implement this. We want this to be a major part of the video archive. Anyone, ANYONE, can have their YouTube channels linked in the video archive. There are no rules. Therefore, average Joe Olimar players (like me) can still have their videos watched. The only difference is that my videos, for example, will not be specifically linked in a character-specific section, UNLESS I happen to be participating in a major tournament, and my match is from a semi-final or final round of the tournament (see the big, bold "criteria" thing above).

Rapid Assassin and I believe that the video archive will be much more organized if these three suggestions are used. In summation: the pros will have their tournament matches shown in the character-specific sections to act as models, and the non-pros will still be able to have their videos shown in the video archive via user-specific YouTube channel links. Everyone is happy.

People can advertise their YouTube channels in this video archive by simply posting in here. "Hi guys! I just uploaded a video of my Olimar fighting an AWESOME Meta Knight! Come to my YouTube channel and take a look!" Then, new people can find the links to other users' YouTube channels on the first post of the video archive. Or, the advertiser can just include the direct links into the post. The only difference is that individual links to these videos will not be posted in the character-specific sections of the first post of this video archive. That is reserved for pros. People can post individual links in this video archive in their own posts, but it will not be "stickied" in the character-specific sections, UNLESS, of course, they fulfill the criteria. All is right with the world.

Let's say there hasn't been an Olimar vs...Donkey Kong match in the semi-final or final round of a major tournament, yet. That means the Donkey Kong section will be blank. Not to despair! New people who come to the video archive and want to watch a Donkey Kong fight can simply request it by posting. "Hi, I'm new to the forum. Does anyone have any Olimar vs Donkey Kong videos that I can watch? THANKS!" Then, we, the fellow people of the Olimar forum, can respond with direct links to Olimar vs Donkey Kong videos, etc. The ONLY difference is that these links will not be found in the Donkey Kong section, unless they fulfill the criteria. New people will just have to request "non-pro" videos by simply asking here. Instead of creating a whole new thread on the forum, asking for Donkey Kong videos, the requests can just be posted here in the video archive. That saves the entire Olimar forum from clutter. Once again, everyone is happy.

Note: When I say "non-pro", I don't mean people who lack skills or talent in using Olimar. I define a non-pro as someone who has not participated in a major tournament. Not everyone has the opportunity to participate in a major tournament.

Yes, unfortunately, if the videos are organized using the suggestions from Rapid Assassin and me, then direct links to your videos cannot be placed in any of the character-specific sections. However, you will be able to have your own personal link to your YouTube channel posted in the video archive, so people can go to your YouTube channel and watch all of your videos there. Once a major tournament is established in your area, and you happen to get in the semi-final or even final round of the major tournament, then a direct link to your match can be posted in a character-specific section.

With our suggestions, the criteria for the video archive can apply to all players, worldwide. Even if some people are not able to participate in a major tournament, they can still have their personal YouTube channel links posted on the video archive for everyone to enjoy.

I really like the idea and I seem to get the concept and I see how this is better on the broad scope of things but I want a few days to think about it. I did try and compile a ton of vids and I understand.

I'l also have to scourer GetYourTournamentOn's youtube channel for all the Olimar's in the semis and finals, ugh.

Please understand why I'm not directly accepting your idea right away, and wanting to consider all my options. I also have a tournament that is tomorrow @ 2 to prepare for. That's a lot on my plate as well as reason for me to try and get myself in the best mental state and hopeful have the rite, by Rapid and Gazelle's reasoning, to have video of myself on the front of my own thread.

Talk about a tripping ego. Seriously if the tournament turns out to be more that 24 participants I'd be really happy and glad regardless of how I place. Wish me luck and I'l think about this thread change.

Oh, Dr. Hyde, don't feel like you have to do all of the work. The video archive is a group effort. All you have to do is wipe all of the character-specific sections, and start adding people's YouTube channels if they request for it. Let the members of the Olimar forum handle the rest. We will all look for major tournament matches and post those links here for you to put in the character-specific sections.

Since there have not been many major tournaments, the character-specific sections will be very empty for the most part. That will change over time, as more major tournaments are organized. There's no reason to rush and fill the sections with not-so-good matches. I'd rather wait for the major tournament matches and use those as examples.
