With the recent (legal) surge of retro gaming, and the unveiling of the Wii's Virtual Console, Do you think it's likely that we'll see a surge of "retro" characters. By retro, I don't mean ongoing franchises (eg; Mario, Zelda, Kirby, etc; ) I mean characters who either haven't been in a new game for some time, (Like Pit of Kid Icarus, or The Ice Climbers, and Game & Watch), or whose remakes for the new generation didn't hold the same attention as their original outing (Double Dragon, River City Ransom). OR do you think that the Brawl roster will see mostly an influx of characters from the newer generation of games?

What do you hope the mkeup of the Brawl roster will look like? Personally I'm hoping that more classic characters make the cut, some seem like a perfect fit for Brawl (Alex/Ryan of RCR, Billy/Jimmy Lee of DD, the Battletoads), while other characters that have beem informally 'retired' gave bith to franchises still popular today (Simon Belmont of Castlevania, Megaman) and would be cool character additions to boot. I'm sure franchises included with the Smash series will increase their representation, but I think that more Retro characters have a better chance of appearing in this installment.

Your thoughts on the subject?

I see a chance of a few extra retros, like two or three maybe. But I think that it will continue to mostly be the newer franchises that head the pack. Nothing against the retros, but they seem to have less popularity in a world that is always thinking about what lays ahead, not behind. I'd say Megaman has a fairly good shot of making it to Brawl, but I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head. Anyways, it's going to be interesting to see where this franchise is headed in the next decade.

None of your business.
I wouldn't want too many classic characters. Maybe 3-5 including Pit. New characters are what make Brawl so fun to hope for. Having classic characters that only a portion of gamers would remember takes some of the fun out of it, I think.

As afr as taking the fun out of it, I don't think it would as long as the characters are cool.

I don't think classic characters really fit a small niche audience: emulation has already been pretty big, and it seems that services like XBLA and the VC are pretty popular. All i really want anyways are Simon Belmon and Megaman, I just think a few others would make interesting additions.

I think it's a lot more likely that we'll see more retros in Brawl than we did in Melee.

I Melee we have Ice Climbers, Mr. G&W, and Marth (he's retro FE.)

In Brawl, I woud count on seeing three (including Pit) new ones in addition to the three previous ones.

Honestly, I would like to see retros and modern characters in Brawl. I remember the first time I saw Marth and thought "Who the heck is that?" I also remember seeing Mewtwo and thought "Nice." I want more of those moments!

Retro and classic mean two different things. Retro means old, while classic means old but good enough that it is still played often. I think BRawl should have mostly, if not all, classic characters. It also means Greco-roman, but whatever.

I think there should be SOME retro characters, but not too many. I would rather see characters from some of the new games. As Pit 42 said, having alot of Classic characters would mean that only a portion of people would know who they are, but, as Mario-man also said, as long as their cool... Mweheh.

There will be retro characters, The Creator loves to surprise people... like who would really put the iceclimbers in over way more popular characters? He likes the surprise element even mentioned it in one of his emails that he did. So I would count on it.

Also on the topic of retro anyone else notice like 2 weeks ago that the VC games were all the retro smash brother characters games. Kid icarus,Kirby and iceclimbers?

I think Nintendo will probably include the newer age characters because they appeal to a wider range of audiences.

Retro characters appeal to anyone playing that was around during the 80's, and anyone in the emulation community. Since Nintendo has been trying to appeal to non and 'retired' games since the launching of the DS, and have continued that like of thinking for the Wii, I'm pretty sure more retro characters will make it in to appeal to these audiences.

Other than that, I jus know I'd mark out for A Belmont or Megaman to make the cut (The N-Team lives on), the battletoads, or Alex of RCR would just be icing on the cake...Brother [/Hogan]

Like I said, just an idea. I was trying to think of someone else that they could put in, that hasn't been mentioned before.

It's been mentioned before and nobody liked it then either.

Also, if you wanna see old school support threads just look up anything by parrothead or FlipTroopa.

I'm definately for old school characters, BTW.
