I'm a Seattle-based newcomer. I very recently decided to delve into competitive, so there's still a lot that I need to learn~
I main G&W, and I mostly play Brawl, but I'll probably start picking up Project M in a bit.
Seattle doesn't really seem to have a sprawling competitive scene... or I'm just not looking hard enough.
I joined smashboards to try to get better, and maybe even try to get into the community c:

Check out regional zones maybe, it'd be a good place to start.

Hey there, Al!ce! I'd also like to recommend taking a look at this guide for competitive Smash. Very informative, just take things slowly. Doesn't do any good to try and absorb all the info in one day.

Many people come here to seek the knowledge the boards have to offer, but I do hope you stick around and enjoy your time around here :)
