Tyranitar
National Dex Number: 248
Metagame tier: OU
Type: Rock/Dark
Ability: Sand Stream
Base stats:
-HP: 100
-Attack: 134
-Defense: 110
-Special Attack: 95
-Special Defense: 100
-Speed: 61

Movesets:

Choice Band:
EVs: 60 HP 252 Attack 196 Speed
Nature: Adamant
Crunch
Earthquake/ Stone Edge / Rock Slide
Pursuit
Focus Punch

Crunch and Earthquake serve as the main attacks on this set. Pursuit will do decent damage to anything switching out. In addition Pursuit will generally OHKO anything that it hits for super effective damage even if they do not switch out.

Stone edge can be used over Earthquake to hit Skarmory and Gyarados. Rock Slide is a worthwhile option if you dislike the accuracy of Stone Edge.

It is not necessary to max the speed on this set as with Tyranitar and the given EVs you will be either faster or slower even if you max the speed. Plus you will likely be switching Tyranitar out fairly often.

TyraniBoah:
EVs: 252 HP 188 Special Attack 68 Speed
Nature: Quiet
Item: Leftovers/ Life Orb
Thunder bolt/ Ice beam
Dark Pulse
Focus Punch
Substitute

This set was created by jumpman of the smogon forums during the ADV gen to overcome popular stalling teams.

Thunderbolt and Dark Pulse are for type coverage. Focus punch is to stop Blissey from walling you but generally still relies on prediction. Substitute is to aid in defeating Blissey. With 404 HP she won’t be able to break the substitute and you can fire off a focus punch.

The traditional set used thunderbolt but Ice beam has it’s advantages. Ice beam is effective against common defensive pokemon like Hippowdon,Donphan and the oh-so popular dragons.

Leftovers can be used for longevity and Life Orb can be used to give that extra power to your attacks.

Dragon Dancer:
EVS: 252 Attack 252 Speed 4 HP
Nature: Jolly/Adamant
Dragon Dance
Earthquake/Stone Edge
Crunch
Taunt/ Ice beam/ Fire blast

This set does not have the immediate power of the choice band set but is very popular as it allows for a sweep if you can set up. Taunt is great for preventing pokemon from stopping your set-up or giving you status problems.

Ice beam is a reliable option again not only for hitting popular pokemon but you won’t need to switch as often. Fire blast is Heracross and Skarmory. Although with choice scarf Heracross being so popular the use of fireblast will require prediction, lest you want to wind up OHKO’d by Close Combat.

Adamant is available as a usable nature but Jolly is much preferred due to the ability to out speed more threats.

Mix Set
EVS: 216 Attack 96 Special Attack 196 Speed
Nature: Naïve/Lonely
Item: Life orb

Crunch
Earthqauke/Stone Edge/ Rock slide
Ice beam
Fire blast/ Flamethrower

The mixed set hits from both ends of the spectrum. The choice between Earthquake, Stone Edge and Rock Slide is still here. Stone Edge is used for Gyarados and Skamory but in this case you have flamethrower for the latter. If your team has other ways to deal with Gyarados feel free to go Earthquake for more power.

The choice between flamethrower and Fireblast is similar to Stone Edge and Rock Slide. Flamethrower has a lower power but superior accuracy.

Naïve can be used if you want to take physical attacks better while Lonely lets you take special attacks more easily.

Choice Scarf
EVS: 4 HP 252 Attack 252 Speed
Nature: Adamant/Jolly
Crunch
Earthquake/ Stone Edge / Rock Slide
Pursuit
Focus Punch / Brick Break
This set is exaclty the same as the choice band set with only a few alterations. Everything said with the choice band set still applies only in this case you max both speed and attack. Brick Break is a option as you're more likely to stay in when using a scarf then a band.

With a base 65 speed you're not going to outspeed alot of things and this set is basically to suprise slower pokemon who otherwise outspeed you. With that said this set is midly gimmicky.

Counters:
Swampert effectively counters all of the sets. Donphan and Hippowdon are counters to the physical sets. Gliscor resist psychical attacks and can remove his weakness to stone edge by using Roost. Suicune is great defensively and can hit Tyranitar with STAB Surf.

Summary:
Tyranitar is a truly amazing pokemon. With incredible psychal capabilites, a special attack not to be dismissed and a massive movepool this is a pokemon that has earned his spot in OU.

Tyranitar is also the most popular pokemon to used with a sand storm team. His ability boost his and other rock types a special defense boost of 1.5. His ability also gives other pokemon like Garchomp, Gliscor and Cacturne a boost with their own abilities.

Wii finally get to see Chill's RTP skill.

This is, like, perfect. The only thing that you might consider adding is that Tyraniboah was used to overcome to popular stalling team in ADV. You could also put:

B = SuBstitute
O = FOcus Punch
A = DArk Pulse
H = THunderbolt

But this has nothing to do with battling.

Also, in Tyraniboah, you spelled "Quite" instead of "Quiet" for the nature.

Until wii meet again,

good job.

my DD set runs taunt DD crunch stoneedge, and the double stab beats out EQ quite a bit.

You could put in a Trick Room set because poor Tyranitar has phethetic Speed, but you don't have to seeing as I'm the only one here who will use it competitively. And highlight Curse solely because of Trick Room Tyranny.

I fixed the typos and re-worded a few sentances to explain a bit more.

Added Stone Edge to the DD set but I don't know why I didn't put it on there in the first place. I think it's because I find stone edge generally unreliable and sub consciously left it off. :p

I'll add the TR set.

Remember the sandstorm-boost. You shouln't waste his great sp.defence, when about any STABed Super Effective physical move OHKO him.

Earthquake is for typecoverage, so Stone Edge and Rock Slide should be considered insted of Focus Punch, which really isn't necessary on the CB set. Requires some good prediction and it doesn't even OHKO his counters. And also, Stone Edge gets 150 power with STAB, and 2HKOs about everything which doesn't resist it. After one Focus Punch, you are most likely forced to switch.

And also, for the DD-set, I find EQ and Stone Edge better than Crunch. Great type coverage, which only are resisted by Flygon, Claydol, Bronzong and Breloom (I think :p). It's also a much more powerful combination. I think Crunch should be an option to Stone Edge. :)

But anyways, good job making this thread. ^^ Tyranitar should be uber, though. :p
