Welcome to the Official Ristar for Brawl Support Thread!

Let's make it understood now, that this is for SUPPORT. Whether you believe Ristar has a shot in Brawl or no is of no concern. What matters is that you show support for this character as I would show support for you character regardless of your character's chance.

This thread is meant to be fun, and remember Ristar for his classic game on SEGA GENESIS, and what he could potentially bring to SSBB.

Now for a small history of Ristar.

HISTORY

Ristar debuted on the SEGA Genesis console on February 16th, 1995. The game was developed by the Sonic Team and the game was soon made available on consoles such as Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Playstation 2, X-Box, GameCube, PSP and most recently, the WII Virtual Console.

The game takes place in the seven-planet Valdi System (also known as the "Vadji" System according to the back of the European box). The Legendary Hero is a shooting star that protects this galaxy. An evil space pirate, Kaiser Greedy, has kidnapped him and made the planets' leaders obey him. The inhabitants of Planet Neer (Flora outside Japan) pray for a hero before Greedy's mind control snatches them. The desperate prayers reach the nebula of the Star Goddess, Oruto. She awakens one of her children, Ristar, with the sole purpose of granting the wishes of the innocent people. He must stop Greedy and rescue the Legendary Hero – who is also Ristar's father. (Game story provided by wikipedia.org).

MOVE SET:
This would be my created move list for Ristar. Feel free to come up with your own...

Ristar is an overlooked SEGA character whose lone game was a classic for the Genesis. Why Ristar? Well, he has a different style of fighting. He has no swords, fire, guns, explosives, hammers and so forth. He's small but strong. Without some type of weapon or projectile, Ristar would rely on his strecthing ability to grap enemies and deliever hard headbutts, kicks and punches. Players would have to utilize his strength and his ability to attack from a distance. Ristar has the potential to set up very effective combos with his move set listed below.

He would be slightly heavier than Kirby, a little taller than both Kirby and MetaKnight, but slightly faster than Kirby, slower than MetaKnight. He would have above average strength and the following special moves: (Note, the names of the moves may suck)

1.) Spinning Strike: Since Ristar's face is a star, he has to use that to his advatage. Similar to the Fox Illusion, Ristar would dash forward with good speed (not as fast as Fox, Sonic, or Capt. Falcon, but pretty quick) spinning his star-face catching opponents for 3-10 damage points depending on where he makes contact.

2.) Long Arms of the Law: Ristar would stretch both his arms out and grab an opponent, bring them in close and begin spinning his star-face causing 10-15% damage points and releasing the opponent back across the stage, or into the air, or a head-butt move that would send the opponent back to the stage floor, a choice that could be made up by the controller.

3.) Shooting Star: Similar to the Fire Fox move by Fox McCLoud, Ristar's face would spin as usual, but glow brightly and shoot him into the air. On the initial burst into the air, if an opponent was hit on it would do a maximum of 17% damage. Once in the air, he would be able to hover similar to Kirby or Jiggly Puff for a few seconds. This, combined with his stretching arms would also make for a great recovery move.

FINAL SMASH: SKULL CRUSHER: Combines the Long Arms move with the spinning star idea. After obtaining the smash ball, Ristar's face would spin, but it would not cause damage, rather it would make him invincible for the duration of his final smash. He would change from golden-yellow to red to indicate his invincibility. While, invincible, Ristar could stretch his arms to maximum lenght, grab an opponent and deliever 3 solid head butts to the enemy for a total of 30-35% damage.

So overall:

RISTAR

weight: average
speed: average
strength: above average
recovery: above average

I applaud your effort, but I really don't understand why some people feel the need to scrape at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to character suggestions.

Interesting is the comparison of Ristar vs. Stafy.

STAFY

VS.

RISTAR

Both are...stars and thats about the only thing they have in common. I feel that Ristar would fit in Brawl slightly better than Stafy, but I would need a moveset to really make that fair determination.

I've grown curious about this Stafy character now. And the more I think about it, I keep saying to myself "Why can't Ristar be thought about for Brawl?" He's got the cartoony look, the chance for a great move set, unique fighting style to go with that move set and he could have the WTF appeal like Game and Watch.

Bottomline, no more threads for me about Ristar. He's old school and I gotta show my love for him.

I guess the joke is on me.

Ristar has about the same chance as a snowcone's chances in Phoenix. He is so obscure when it come to third party characters that he might as well be forgotten. He is no Sonic, Snake, Mega-Man or even Ray-man. But I'll be a jerk and state that without Ristar, Sega would have gone down hill in their first 3 years of existence. HAHAHAHA.
