In order to decrease the number of threads of people asking about b-sticking, or how to zapjump, or who is an easy counter to Lucas, I have decided to make an official question thread, which I, and I hope any other decent Lucas, will be monitoring.

If you have a question, please ask here instead of making a new thread. During this pivotal point in the development of metagame, it would be better for this forum if we kept the boards clean of anything that wasn't useful.

I'll get the easy ones out of the way:

How do I zapjump?
Zapjumping is a strange glitch that occurs when Lucas performs his second jump and a PK Fire in the same frame. The jump gives him upward momentum, as it is supposed to do, but this momentum remains constant during the entire PKF, meaning he goes straight up at a fast speed for the entire duration of the PKF. If you were to turn FD on its side, that is how far you would go, roughly.

It has strange properties. For instance, if you RAR the PKF, the jump sends you diagonally at a 45 degree angle backwards (since you turned around, forwards from your original position), and for not nearly as long a time period. You move maybe 1.5x the length of one of the platforms on battlefield, if that.

In order to Zapjump, simply press B-sideways and jump at the exact same time. There are a few ways of doing this. First, swich your hand position briefly so that your index finger is on X and your thumb is on B, then jam right or left on the control stick and press both X and B at the same time. Some people have trouble with this, like me, so second, you can change the L trigger to jump. Then just smash L and left/right, and press B. I get about a 90% success rate using this method.

Assign right analog stick to special attacks. When in the air, smash the right stick in the opposite direction as you want to shoot a PKF. At the same time, hold the left analog stick in the other direction (that is, the direction the PK Fire goes).

It should work, though I can't exactly test it.

Dashdancing is a technique commonly used in Melee and, to a lesser extent, Brawl, to help space you with your opponent. It is performed by flicking the left analog stick left and right, back and forth, repeatedly, very quickly, causing the player to jerk back and forth.

A pivot grab is simply a grab performed while you are doing this. It comes out faster and has less lag.

Yes, I have used it in the past for recovery in desperate situations. I would only attempt it, though, if you're at a high percentage and are probably going to die soon anyway.

What controller setup are you using? Switching jump to L helps a LOT.

I use the GC controller. I've been trying L button but the timing is harder for me to get than with x XD

I would practice with L in training, jumping off of FD and trying. You'll get it down eventually.

For my gamecube controller since I use Y for jump I mapped an extra special button for for X. Y and X are close enough that I feel confident that one thumb can activate the zap jump.
