Occasional Freeze

I've looked around the boards and this problem hasn't seemed to be addressed. It happens occasionally, I'll go into the Stage Builder to boot up Project M, and it will stick at the Stage Builder screen. I'm using the hackless download, have no custom stages, etc., etc. It usually starts without a problem, this only happens once in a while. I can't get out of the screen, and the only way to turn the wii off has been to unplug the AC adapter (holding the power button doesn't work).

Nobody, eh? Well I have another question.

I have 4 songs to play in the main menu for PM. They're all set to play an equal amount, but lately when I turn the game on, the first one that plays will play every time. I even go in a match and come back out, and it won't change unless I restart the game. How to change?

For your first question, it's not a Wii U right? Because if I get a freeze using the Wii U, I have to unplug it like that, when I use the Wii, the button shut off works.

If it is a Wii U, don't have the SD card inserted until you are about to click on stage builder. If it's a Wii, then I'm not too sure, but you can try what I said as well.

For the songs, if the one you don't want keeps popping up, just exit to the Title Screen, that normally resets which song will play in the Menu. Might have to do it a few times.

Hope that helps! :)

It's a Wii. In the past I have waited to put in the SD card, and that works most of the time, it's just annoying to take it out every time, oh well.

I believe going in and out of matches always used to reset the menu song anew, I just recently started noticing that the song won't change anymore. I'll try the Title Screen trick, but I won't want to do that every time. Another hassle. I guess I'll just live in misery. Thanks for trying, Mario.

I have this problem as well, but I don't know the cause of it.

Have you found a way to stop this from happening? Up until recently it was working great on my Wii U but anymore I'm experiencing the freezing quite a bit.

I can play P:M on my Wii U with no problems. Maybe you should format your SD card and redownload the hackless Wii version of P:M and give it a try. Only reason I get freezes every now and then is when I'm editing a stage I've been making and something doesn't go right.

I've been using the hackles version but I'll try redownloading it again and see how that goes. Thanks! I just thought it was weird that it just started doing that. Also do you know if it really matters if you have the sd card in before startup or not?

I've had it screw up with the card in before/after startup. I've also redownloaded every version since the beginning of 2.5. Still happens. How to reformat sd card?

I may have found the problem.
Two big tips on getting PM working:

1. "projectm", "codes", "private" (which contains the stage builder stage) should all be in the root of the SD Card. Delete the old Project M pf folder, it cancause issues.

2. Do not name your SD Card any sense of the phrasing Project M -- and also be sure to remove any spaces from the name of your SD Card. It's probably best not to name your SD Card anything special.
EDIT: Deconfirmed. This was not the problem.
